Morphine worth Rs. 18 lakh was seized during a joint anti-narcotics operation by Assam Rifles and Customs in Agartala, Tripura. One accused was arrested after 180 grams of contraband were recovered near the railway station area.

A coordinated anti-narcotics drive carried out in Tripura resulted in the seizure of Morphine valued at approximately Rs. 18 lakh and the arrest of one suspected drug trafficker on Wednesday. The operation was jointly conducted by Assam Rifles and the Customs Department in the railway station area of Agartala under West Tripura district.

According to officials, the raid was launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotic substances in the area. During the search operation, the joint team recovered 180 grams of Morphine concealed for illegal transportation. Authorities stated that the recovered contraband has a significant market value in the illegal drug trade.

One individual, identified as Arun Kumar Chakma, was apprehended during the operation in connection with the seizure. Security personnel immediately took him into custody for questioning and further legal action. Officials believe the arrest could help investigators uncover a larger narcotics distribution network operating in the region.

A press release issued after the operation confirmed that the recovered Morphine along with the apprehended accused has been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Law enforcement agencies have intensified anti-drug operations across Tripura in recent months amid growing concerns over narcotics trafficking in the northeastern region. Officials reiterated their commitment to continuing strict surveillance and coordinated enforcement efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and ensure public safety.
