Several Sanatan Dharma organizations brought out massive protest rallies on Agartala streets on Thursday protesting attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh during Puja days. Amidst huge security arrangements the rally went to Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Office near Circuit House and representatives of the protesters submitted a written memorandum to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner demanding protection of the minority Hindus in Bangladesh.
The rally which was huge with thousands of protesters joining – some of them apparently in an aggressive mood- passed off peacefully with blanket security cover thrown across the capital.
There were also threatening overtures as the speakers condemned the barbaric attacks on the Hindus in Bangladesh. “It was a jihadi plan and attacks were committed in a cold blooded manner, planned manner on the Sanatan Dharmis in Bangladesh. We shall not allow such attacks any more. We shall stand united and if so required reply in a befitting manner”, said an agitating Hindu leader.
Swami Boudhisattananda from Bharat Sevashram Sangha said, “recently during the Durga Puja daya Hindu temple, Pandals and Idols have been destroyed in Bangladesh. It is not that this is an isolated incident; previously the historical Dhakeshwari temple was attacked and on several occasions Kali temples were attacked. This way the Hindu population residing in countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan have gradually dwindled and if compared to the figures of post-independence era, it will leave you disturbed.”
The religious leaders said that they would take up the matter at appropriate level.
