Over 20,000 pilgrim have arrived for the Amarnath Yatra 2025, confirmed LG Manoj Sinha. With tight security, enhanced facilities by ONGC, and a welcoming atmosphere, the yatra continues peacefully despite recent challenges. Authorities urge registered yatris to follow convoy protocols and respect scheduled darshan dates.
In a spiritual and cultural milestone, over 20,000 devotees have already arrived in Jammu and Kashmir for the holy glimpse (darshan) of Baba Amarnath. The annual Amarnath Yatra, one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, is underway with fervent enthusiasm and increased participation from across the country.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha confirmed the turnout during a press briefing at Baltal in Ganderbal district on Friday. “There is a very lively atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. People from different parts of the country are visiting here, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir are welcoming them with open hearts,” said LG Sinha, underscoring the unity and shared devotion among locals and pilgrims alike.
The LG emphasized that the environment in Jammu and Kashmir is both enthusiastic and joyful, with preparations and hospitality reflecting the region’s cultural warmth. “The Jammu and Kashmir Government, local administration, and the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board have significantly improved tourism facilities,” he added.
To ensure the comfort and safety of pilgrims, comprehensive arrangements have been made this year. One of the notable developments includes the contribution of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), which, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, has established new tourist accommodations dedicated to Baba Amarnath’s devotees. These facilities aim to enhance the pilgrim experience and reduce pressure on existing infrastructure.
ONGC has also set up a permanent disaster management complex at Baltal to aid the safety and emergency response needs of pilgrims. Similar complexes are being developed at other strategic locations, including Nunwan, Bijbehara, and Sidhra. These efforts are expected to play a critical role in disaster preparedness and risk mitigation during the pilgrimage.
Addressing concerns about pilgrims arriving before their scheduled registration dates, LG Sinha said, “Some devotees whose registration is for later dates are arriving early. I request that no one be turned away. Those registered for July 4 or 5 will be given priority and accommodated within 2–3 days.” This statement reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring that every devotee gets an opportunity to complete the sacred journey.
The Amarnath Yatra this year is taking place under tight security, especially in the wake of a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the loss of 26 innocent tourists’ lives. The attack, allegedly carried out by a Pakistan-sponsored terror outfit, has prompted authorities to implement strict security protocols to safeguard the pilgrims.
To enhance safety measures, the Kashmir Zone Police have issued a security advisory to all yatris (pilgrims) via social media. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they stated: “#Advisory for Yatris of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025. All the pilgrims undertaking Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025 are advised to travel only in designated convoys originating from Bhagwati Nagar, Baltal and Nunwan Base Camps.”

The advisory aims to regulate movement, ensure the safety of all pilgrims, and avoid unmonitored travel in sensitive areas. It is part of the larger coordinated effort involving multiple government agencies to make the Yatra secure and smooth.
Despite the challenges, the overwhelming turnout of over 20,000 pilgrims in the early phase of the Yatra reflects the unshaken devotion and resilience of the spiritual community. With continued efforts by the government, Shrine Board, and local administration, the 2025 Amarnath Yatra is set to proceed with increased preparedness, enhanced facilities, and unwavering faith.
