Ajay Devgn celebrates 8 years of Raid, the blockbuster crime thriller inspired by a historic income tax raid. The actor revisits his iconic role as Amay Patnaik while fans anticipate the upcoming sequel Raid 2.

Eight years after its release, the critically acclaimed crime thriller Raid continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences. On Monday, Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn celebrated the eighth anniversary of the film by sharing a memorable moment from the movie on social media and reflecting on the enduring legacy of his iconic character, Amay Patnaik.

Released on March 16, 2018, the film portrayed Devgn as the fearless and principled Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Amay Patnaik, whose relentless pursuit of justice drives the gripping narrative. The actor marked the milestone by posting a powerful scene from the movie on his official Instagram account. In the clip, his character makes a commanding entry into the residence of a powerful politician to conduct a high-stakes income tax raid.

Sharing the video, Devgn wrote a strong caption that instantly reminded fans of the character’s fearless persona: “You can’t gatekeep anything from Amay Patnaik! #8YearsOfRaid.” The post quickly drew attention from fans who continue to admire the film’s intense storytelling and Devgn’s powerful performance.

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid is widely believed to be inspired by a real-life income tax operation conducted during the 1980s on businessman Sardar Inder Singh. The historic operation reportedly became one of the longest income tax raids in Indian history, lasting several days and uncovering massive undisclosed wealth. The real-life inspiration gave the film a sense of authenticity that resonated with audiences and critics alike.

The movie was produced by Abhishek Pathak, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Bhushan Kumar, Gaurav Nanda, and Krishan Kumar Dua under the banners of Panorama Studios and T-Series. The film combined gripping storytelling with a strong ensemble cast that helped elevate the narrative.

Apart from Devgn, the film featured notable performances from Ileana D’Cruz, who played the role of Patnaik’s supportive wife, while veteran actor Saurabh Shukla delivered a memorable performance as the powerful and corrupt politician targeted in the raid. Actor Saanand Verma also appeared in an important supporting role.

The film’s technical team also played a vital role in its success. Cinematography was handled by Alphonse Roy, whose visual style helped create a tense atmosphere throughout the story. Editing was led by Bodhaditya Banerjee, ensuring the film maintained its gripping pace. Meanwhile, the music composed by Amit Trivedi added emotional depth to the drama.

Upon its release, Raid turned out to be both a critical and commercial success, earning praise for its realistic portrayal of corruption and law enforcement in India. The film’s engaging screenplay and Devgn’s commanding performance helped it perform strongly at the box office.

The popularity of the film has also led to the development of its sequel, Raid 2, where Devgn will once again reprise his role as the relentless Amay Patnaik. Actor Riteish Deshmukh is set to appear as the primary antagonist in the sequel, raising anticipation among fans eager to see another intense confrontation.

Meanwhile, Devgn remains one of Bollywood’s busiest actors with several major projects in the pipeline. His upcoming film lineup includes the next installments of popular franchises such as Drishyam 3 and Dhamaal 4.

Most recently, the actor also began work on Golmaal 5, once again collaborating with director Rohit Shetty and the franchise’s beloved cast. Actors Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, and Sharman Joshi are set to return, while Akshay Kumar is reportedly joining the cast, possibly playing the film’s antagonist.
