Agartala to introduce online cab booking at airport and railway station, boosting smart mobility, passenger convenience, and digital transport access. High-level committee formed to ensure seamless rollout and modern travel experience in Tripura’s capital.

Agartala is poised to witness a significant leap in urban transport convenience with the upcoming launch of online cab booking services at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and Agartala Railway Station. The initiative aims to modernize passenger mobility and bring the city’s transport infrastructure in line with national standards.

The announcement was made by Sushanta Chowdhury during the second session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. He was responding to a private member’s proposal put forward by Chief Whip and MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, who emphasized the need for a streamlined and technology-driven cab booking system for travelers arriving in the city.

Highlighting the growing demand for efficient last-mile connectivity, the minister stated that passengers often face inconvenience due to the lack of organized cab services, especially during peak hours. The introduction of an online booking platform is expected to address these concerns by providing safe, reliable, and hassle-free transportation options directly from arrival points.

To ensure effective implementation, the state government has constituted a high-level committee. The panel includes the Transport Secretary, Inspector General (Law & Order), Superintendent of Police (Traffic), and other key officials. This committee will assess operational logistics, safety protocols, pricing structures, and digital integration mechanisms to ensure a smooth rollout of the service.

The proposal also received support from several legislators, including Shailendra Chandra Nath, who actively participated in the discussion. Lawmakers collectively stressed the importance of aligning Agartala’s transport ecosystem with modern urban standards, particularly as the city continues to evolve under the Smart City initiative.

Officials believe that the move will significantly reduce dependence on unregulated transport services and eliminate issues such as overcharging and passenger inconvenience. By leveraging digital platforms, travelers will be able to book cabs in advance or upon arrival, track rides in real-time, and enjoy greater transparency in fares.

The initiative is also expected to boost tourism and business travel by creating a more welcoming and organized entry experience for visitors. As Tripura’s primary gateway, Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport handles a growing number of passengers annually, while Agartala Railway Station serves as a critical rail hub connecting the state to the rest of the country.

With the introduction of online cab booking, Agartala takes a decisive step toward becoming a more commuter-friendly and technologically advanced city. The government has reiterated its commitment to enhancing public services and ensuring that infrastructure development keeps pace with the needs of a modern urban population.
