Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder launched a new fleet of sanitation vehicles, including auto hopper tippers and mini super suckers, to boost city cleanliness, improve waste management, strengthen drainage systems, and enhance public hygiene under the Agartala Municipal Corporation’s modernization drive.

In a decisive push towards strengthening urban waste management and improving public hygiene, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Thursday flagged off a new fleet of sanitation vehicles at Agartala City Centre. The launch includes seven auto hopper tippers and three sets of mini super suckers, marking a major upgrade in the city’s cleanliness infrastructure.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, AMC Commissioner DK Chakma, Zonal Chairpersons, Corporators, and several senior officials, reflecting a unified commitment to enhancing Agartala’s sanitation network. The newly inducted vehicles are expected to streamline garbage collection, drainage clearance, and overall waste management operations across the city.

Speaking to the media, Mayor Majumder highlighted that the initiative is part of AMC’s ongoing efforts to modernize its sanitation system and address the challenges of rapid urbanization. “The seven auto hopper tippers will be deployed specifically for collecting garbage from hotels, restaurants, and fast-food outlets across Agartala,” he stated. These vehicles will help maintain better hygiene in commercial zones that generate high volumes of waste.

Additionally, the three mini super suckers have been procured to handle de-siltation of covered storm-water drains and narrow-lane drainage channels. According to the Mayor, these machines will play a crucial role in preventing waterlogging and ensuring smooth water flow, especially in densely populated localities where manual cleaning is difficult.

“The introduction of this new fleet represents a proactive approach by AMC to tackle waste disposal issues and improve drainage maintenance. We aim to establish higher standards of cleanliness and make Agartala a model of urban hygiene,” Majumder said.

Officials noted that the new machinery will enhance operational efficiency, reduce manual labour burden, and accelerate waste clearance in the city. AMC also plans to expand its sanitation resources further in the coming months to ensure sustained improvements in public health and cleanliness.
