Abhishek Debroy officially assumes charge as Tripura BJP president, outlining a vision focused on organizational strengthening, grassroots expansion, disciplined social media use, and preparation for the 2028 elections. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed confidence that Debroy’s leadership will energize workers and further strengthen BJP’s presence across Tripura.

Matabari MLA Abhishek Debroy formally assumed charge as the new president of the Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, marking a significant leadership transition within the ruling party’s state unit. Debroy succeeded outgoing state BJP president and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee during a ceremonial programme held at the party’s state headquarters in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, senior party leaders, ministers, MLAs, and a large gathering of party workers.

The formal handover of responsibilities was marked by a symbolic gesture as Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Rajib Bhattacharjee jointly seated Debroy in the president’s chair, signifying the beginning of a new chapter for the party in Tripura.

Addressing party leaders and workers after taking charge, Debroy reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the BJP’s organizational structure while remaining firmly rooted in the party’s ideology and principles. Stressing the importance of collective efforts, he said that his leadership would focus on maintaining respect for senior leaders while simultaneously encouraging greater participation from younger workers.

“Our motto is ‘Nation First and Self Last.’ I will work with respect for seniors, learn from their experience, and engage with the youth to energize the grassroots organization,” Debroy said.

The newly appointed state BJP chief also appealed to media organizations to highlight the developmental and welfare-oriented initiatives undertaken by the government. He emphasized that effective communication of government achievements would help ensure that the benefits and objectives of various schemes reach the common people.

Later, while addressing a felicitation programme at RS Bhawan, Debroy delivered a strong message regarding the use of social media by party workers. He urged members to exercise caution and responsibility while posting online, advising them against expressing dissatisfaction publicly through social media platforms.

According to Debroy, concerns and grievances should be raised through internal party mechanisms rather than being aired publicly. He reminded workers that the party’s central leadership closely monitors organizational activities and stressed that every position within the party is temporary and carries responsibilities that must be discharged with sincerity and dedication.

“Merely saying BJP is not enough; one must reflect BJP values in conduct as well,” he remarked, urging workers to carry the party’s ideology and principles to the grassroots level through their actions.

Debroy further stated that fostering better coordination between senior leaders and younger workers would remain a key priority during his tenure. He expressed confidence that greater unity and cooperation would help strengthen the party’s organizational foundation and expand its influence across the state.

The programme witnessed the participation of ministers, legislators from different constituencies, district-level leaders, mandal representatives, and senior office bearers, reflecting the importance of the leadership transition within the party.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed optimism about the future of the party under Debroy’s leadership. He praised outgoing president Rajib Bhattacharjee for his contributions during his tenure and noted that leadership changes are an established tradition within the BJP.

Saha also announced that a new state committee and Morcha committees would be formed in the near future. According to him, these changes would help rejuvenate the party’s work culture, strengthen organizational efficiency, and boost the morale of workers across Tripura.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Debroy’s responsibilities would extend beyond organizational strengthening and would include preparing the party for the 2028 Assembly elections. He stressed the importance of maintaining close connections with the people and ensuring that the party remains deeply rooted at the grassroots level.

Political observers view the appointment of Abhishek Debroy, one of the younger faces in the state’s political landscape, as a strategic move aimed at injecting fresh energy into the Tripura BJP. His elevation is expected to bridge generational gaps within the organization, encourage greater youth participation, and reinforce the party’s grassroots presence as it prepares for future political challenges in the state.
