Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, the Central Government is committed to the development of the North Eastern States and within five years flood problems of Assam will be solved.  Shah was addressing a Karyakarta Sammelan in Guwahati today. The Home Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi militancy problems almost vanished from Assam and as a result development work is going on very smoothly. He said, the Armed Forces Special Power Act has been removed from almost 80 per cent of areas of North Eastern States.

Later in the evening, Shah will chair a regional meeting on ‘Drug Trafficking and National Security’ in Guwahati with all the Chief Ministers and Police Chiefs of North Easter States to discuss the drug situation in the North-Eastern Region and ways to mitigate it. He will also attend a review meeting of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) in Guwahati. The Shillong-based NESAC is a joint initiative of the Department of Space and the North Eastern Council. The NESAC helps augment the developmental process in the North-East by providing advanced Space technology support.

Earlier in the day, the Union Home Minister along with BJP President JP Nadda inaugurated the new party office of Assam state BJP in Guwahati today. Speaking on the occasion, . Shah said that Narendra Modi government brought peace in North East. He said that nearly 9000 youths laid down arms and returned to the mainstream in the region during the last 8 years. He said, the North East region is marching towards the path of development after 2014.

Elaborating upon the special features of a work place, the Home Minister said the it is a place from where along with hard work emotions are also attached.

BJP’s national President J P Nadda said that the party would set up offices at grass root level across the country. He said , it is a matter of pride that the state of the art office has come up in Guwahati today. Both the leaders also laid foundation stones of over 100 local level offices virtually.

Our Correspondent reports that The 6 storied state of the art building is located at Basistha Chariali area of Guwahati. The party had started its work in Assam from a single room office located at Uzan Bazar area in Guwahati in 1980. Several veteran party workers and leaders were flicitated today on the occassion. State party President Bhabesh Kalita, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Rameshwar Teli felicitated them. . Nadda and . Shah also inaugurated several district and mandal offices virtually. Later, both the leaders will address a party rally at Khanapara in Guwahati.
