An ancient Vishnu Idol carved out of black stone was found Jagannath Dighi of Udaipur on Saturday. Recovery of the idol which is believed to about made centuries ago- though exact date would be ascertained only after scientific examinations by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and beautifully carved out sent a sensation across the temple city with hundreds of people thronging to have a glimpse of it.

The idol was found during renovation of the lake. At present excavation works were going on around the Jagannath Dighi. The idol was found at the West Bank of the lake by the workers engaged in the earth cutting .

It may be mentioned here that Jagannath Dighi was excavated during the reign of Maharaja Govinda Manikya and it is presumed that the Vishnu idol was an idol of the Vishnu Temple (presently known as Hari Mandir). Meanwhile, high officials of the Gomati District Administration and officials of the Police Administration rushed to the spot. At present, the idol has been kept at Jagannath Bari.

The recovery of the idol sent the netizens into tizzy as several posts with the photographs of the idol were being posted in the social media.
