Chief of Defence Staff general Bipin Rawat’s helicopter crashed in Tamilnadu on Wednesday noon. Four persons were confirmed dead. Gen Rawat his wife, security commandos of the general and IAF personnel were in the chopper. Details are awaited.

It took place at Nilgiri and the chopper was of MI series. They were going to Wellington. The chopper took off from the Air Force station in Sulur, Coimbatore and was headed to Wellington Defence Services Staff college where the CDS was due to deliver a lecture.

According to Times of India tweet  the passengers included CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brig LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, NK Gursewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kr, L/Naik Vivek Kumar, L/Naik B Sai Teja & Hav Satpal

The IAF tweeted : Indian Air Force in a  tweet said  an IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Other media outlet said, the army chopperwhere Gen Rawat and 13 other passengers were flying met with an accident. Soon after the mishap rescue personnel found four dead bodies and two persons with severe burn injuries. Both were rushed to hospital.
