New Delhi: The Winter Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on December 4 and conclude on December 22, with a total of 15 scheduled sittings spanning over 19 days.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi expressed anticipation for discussions on Legislative Business and other matters during this session amidst an auspicious time.

The results of the assembly elections in five states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram – will be declared on December 3.

Notably, this session will also mark the inaugural full session to be held in the newly constructed Parliament building.

The Winter Session of Parliament, typically commencing in November, has been postponed to December this time due to the ongoing elections.

During this session, three crucial bills aimed at replacing the IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act are expected to be discussed. Additionally, there may be consideration for the bill pertaining to the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.

Although introduced in the Monsoon session, the government did not press for its approval in the special session of Parliament due to opposition and objections from former chief election commissioners.

The government aims to align the status of the CEC and ECs with that of the cabinet secretary, as they currently hold a status equivalent to that of a Supreme Court judge.

In September, a Special Parliament Session took place for the transition from the old building to the new one. During this session, the historic womens reservation bill was successfully passed.
