Social Welfare and Social Education Minister, Tinku Roy, presided over a comprehensive district-level awareness cum workshop on various schemes and programs implemented by his department at Agartala Kunjaban on Thursday. During the event, the Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing the system for the effective implementation of projects and schemes that benefit elderly citizens in the state.

Minister Tinku Roy underscored the department’s commitment to providing social assistance to genuine beneficiaries throughout the state. He emphasized the crucial role that public representatives play in ensuring that the benefits of departmental projects and services reach the intended recipients.

On a related note, Minister Roy called for a holistic approach to elderly citizens, stating, “Establishing Old Age Homes alone will not solve the problems faced by the elderly.” He emphasized that the government is dedicated to enhancing the social welfare of elderly citizens in the state. However, he also acknowledged that some challenges exist, particularly in terms of funding allocation to NGOs running Old Age Homes.

Roy explained, “Despite receiving funds from various sources, it has been observed that NGOs operating Old Age Homes often demand additional funding from the government while struggling to establish proper infrastructure for elderly citizens residing in these homes. Thus, there is a need to devise a strategy to strengthen the system for the effective implementation of government projects and schemes.”

The district-level awareness workshop served as a platform for discussions and insights on enhancing elderly welfare programs in the state. It highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by elderly citizens and finding sustainable solutions for their well-being.
