Kolkata/IBNS: After taking the challenge of featuring as onscreen Bengali sleuth Byomkesh in his last film Byomkesh o Durgo Rahasya, Tollywood superstar-producer Dev is gearing up for the release of his next, Bagha Jatin.

The actor kickstarted the promotional campaign for Bagha Jatin, which is based on Indian revolutionary Jatindranath Mukherjee or Bagha Jatin, launching its teaser late last week.

Dev plays the titular role in Bagha Jatin, which is directed by Arun Roy popularly known for 8/12 Binay Badal Dinesh.

Sharing his experience of making the film as an actor and producer, Dev says, We have a very few films about the Bengali revolutionaries. The last film 8/12 Binay Badal Dinesh was also made by Arun Roy.

We have been working on this film for almost two years. I may be able to do a lot of films in future but not Bagha Jatin. Since the films pre-production, we have lived the era. We had almost felt his battle against the British.

On choosing to portray a Bengali revolutionary, Dev, whose Tonic and Projapati were massive box office hits in recent times, said he wanted all Indians to know about Bengali revolutionaries.

I felt Indians should know about the Bengali revolutionaries. I feel people should get to know about a number of revolutionaries who have been lost in the pages of history, the 40-year-old actor said, and added, We know a lot about Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, but Bagha Jatin is known to very few people apart from the Bengalis.

So I felt like taking this attempt. I am sure the audience will feel the emotion cutting across language barriers while watching the film.

Bagha Jatin tells the extraordinary tale of Jatindranath Mukherjee, a prominent freedom fighter and a key figure in Indias struggle for independence during the early 20th century.

He was christened Bagha Jatin because he fought with a tiger in his bare hands. The movie sheds light on his fearless spirit, unwavering determination and unwavering love for his country.

This period film also features actress Sudipta Chakraborty in a major role while debutant Sreeja Dutta plays Bagha Jatins onscreen wife Indubala.

The film is slated to release in Bengali and Hindi in the pan-India market on Oct 19 during Durga Puja.
