BJP candidates for the Dhanpur and Boxanagar bye polls would submit their nominations on Thursday.  The by-polls for the Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly constituencies will take place on September 5.

BJP has nominated Taffajal Hossain  for the Boxanagar seat, and Bindu Debnath for the Dhanpur seat. Taffajal Hossain’s re-nomination for the Boxanagar seat follows the vacancy created by the passing of CPM MLA Samshul Haque last month. In the case of the Dhanpur seat, Bindu Debnath, the president of the BJP’s Dhanpur Mandal, has been introduced as a fresh face. The Dhanpur seat was previously secured by Pratima Bhowmik on a BJP ticket during the 2023 assembly elections. However, it fell vacant when Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment resigned shortly after the election results were announced.

State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee expressed the party’s confidence in securing victory and informed that campaign activities have already commenced in all 110 booths across the Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly constituencies. Nominations for the candidates will be submitted on Thursday to the respective Returning Officers.

Bhattacharjee confidently asserted, “Given the analysis of previous election results and the positive response from the public towards the BJP-led government’s initiatives, there is no doubt that BJP candidates will emerge victorious in both constituencies by a significant margin.”

Taking a critical stance towards the opposition’s united front, Bhattacharjee remarked, “The so-called ‘evil’ alliance between Congress and CPIM in the 2023 assembly elections is widely known, and the results reflect its impact. People have consistently rejected their policies, as they are well aware of the ground reality and the substantial development that has taken place under BJP governance.”

The results of the Tripura by-polls are scheduled to be announced on September 8, 2023. The current composition of the 60-member Tripura Legislative Assembly consists of the ruling BJP with 31 MLAs, its ally IPFT with 1, the prime opposition TIPRA Motha with 13, CPIM with 10 (including the seat vacated by Shamshul Haque’s passing), and the Congress with 3 MLAs. As the election fervor heightens, all eyes are on the unfolding political dynamics that will shape the state’s future.
