Tension ran high as Trinamool Congress and BJP workers resorted to pitched battles in Teliamura on Wednesday night which left eight people injured and several motorbikes damaged. Police had to resort to mild lathi charge and also to shoot tear gas shells to disperse the violent rivals groups.
The bloody clashes took place at ward no- 13 and 14 of Teliamura Municipal Council.
All these started when both parties went out for poll campaign. Both wanted to hold rally in the same spot which triggered the first spark of clashes with rival supporters resorting to brickbatting. Soon the clash spilled over and at Kalitilla area
According to sources, the time for the campaign programme was fixed for both the parties—
several motorcycles were vandalized and a house was ransacked. At least eight people were injured during the attack and counter attack.
Police tried to bring the situation under control but in vain. It was then the police resorted to mild lathi-charge as well as fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Massive reinsforcement has been made and TSR troops have been deployed. Police also detained some youths.
