In a move that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has announced his decision to relinquish his position as the supremo of the Tipra Motha party. This decision comes at a time when there is palpable disappointment and frustration among the party’s foot soldiers, who had hoped for significant progress in realizing the concept of ‘Greater Tipraland.’

Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, known for his high-decibel rhetoric, has been unable to make substantial headway in materializing the aspirations of creating a separate state called ‘Greater Tipraland’ or even in establishing dialogue with relevant stakeholders on the matter. As a result, many viewed his decision to step down as a natural course of action.

The political landscape surrounding Tipra Motha has reached a critical juncture, prompting the party to make constitutional amendments. As part of these changes, the post of ‘chairman’ has been abolished, reflecting the party’s need for a fresh approach. The responsibility of overseeing party affairs will now fall on the president of the party, Bijoy Kumar Hrankhwal.

Addressing the developments, Pradyot stated, “In the new constitution of Tipra Motha, there is no chairman post. President of the party, Bijoy Kumar Hrankhwal, would now look after the party affairs.” He further emphasized that his role should not involve local issues, stating, “Bubagra is there to hold talks with Delhi; it’s not my job to look after local issues.”

Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also reiterated his commitment to fighting for the rights of the Tiprasa people, emphasizing that his cause transcends any political party or organization. He declared, “I am fighting for the rights of Tiprasa people, not for Tipra Motha. We are born as Tiprasa. BJP, CPM, or Motha comes later.”

The resignation of Pradyot Kishore Debbarma as the Tipra Motha supremo is expected to have far-reaching implications for the party’s future. It remains to be seen how the party will navigate the challenges ahead, especially in light of the unresolved issue of ‘Greater Tipraland’ and the aspirations of the Tiprasa people. As political dynamics in Tripura continue to evolve, all eyes will be on the party’s leadership and their ability to chart a new course for Tipra Motha.
