Tripura is on the fast track of development like other parts of the country and within a very short span of time the state will come in a big way to contribute to the national economy, said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MoS of Skill development, IT etc.
In an informal interaction, the Union minister dwelt extensively on the changes that came about in the socio-economic environment of the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and maintained that within years India would become the third largest economy in the world after the USA and China.
“Two most important features that contributed to the fast changing face of India are that now there is increasing figure of skilled manpower in all spheres and development of massive infrastructures in fast pace -which was not available earlier”, he said.
‘But, is Tripura- which will open up to the South East Asia soon through Bangladesh- really ready to meet the emerging challenges that will follow with the expanding horizon and related and not- hitherto-experienced activities?”
“ Will it not throw up a ‘Future Shock’ as the state is, perhaps, not as yet fully equipped to meet the fast accelerating rate of the change that is in the offing—with all infrastructures in place but not adequate skilled and motivated manpower in sight to cope up ?”
To this question Chandrasekhar maintained that plans were already afoot to go whole hog and make Tripura prepared to not only meet the challenges head-on but also ‘to aspire more’.
“Prime Minister Modi gives emphasis on ‘aspiration’ of the people- more the aspiration, more the proactive policies and fast pace actions from the government will be on the card to address it. For decades Indian mind set was such that they could not, and, did not ‘aspire’- and so remained largely unskilled and unprepared. They were blissfully complacent in their ignominy. Now things are different. People now have started aspiring more and more and the government is also coming out to deliver accordingly”, Chandrasekhar said.
To drive his point home, the Union minister said, government was alive with the emerging scenario that would be unfolding before Tripura soon. Accordingly, holistic plans were already put in pipelines –one of the important components of the plans being adequate skilling of the youths- especially women’’.
“For an example”, he said, “within one year there would be massive surge in food and horticulture related entrepreneurship in Tripura- the whole world being the market for the Tripura products”.
“Under the direction of the Prime Minister plans are made, and soon will be implemented, to ensure proper skilling and motivation of the Tripura youths. And, within one year, you will see, entrepreneurs from this state sending their products across the globe”, he said and felt that women entrepreneurs were likely to play the key role in giving a thrust in the new economic activities. His confidence was evidently derived from what he said women entrepreneurs’ involvement in Indian mobile set industries where their contribution played a great role and made it possible not to only to meet the demand of the domestic market of the mobile sets but also to export them- while earlier it had been China that used to dominate the Indian market. Now, things did change- and for good.
