Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasized the need for expeditious completion and quality maintenance of township projects under the Tripura Urban Planning and Development Authority (TUDA). During a review meeting held on May 30 at Secretariat No. 2 meeting room, the Chief Minister urged swift resolution of implementation issues in all ongoing township projects. He also recommended the incorporation of rainwater harvesting systems in the flats being constructed in the township project near Vivekananda Market and Kunjaban area of Kaman Choumuhni in Agartala.
The meeting extensively discussed the current status of various township projects under TUDA, as well as the initiatives taken for the development of the city area. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha was joined by Secretary of Urban Development Department Abhishek Singh, Secretary of Information and Technology Department Kiran Gitte, Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. PK Chakraborty, TUDA member Swapan Saha, and senior officials from various departments.
Highlighting the state’s inclination towards flat purchases, the Chief Minister directed the department to promote the flats constructed in Agartala under TUDA. He emphasized the importance of implementing certain conditions for the flats to ensure proper ownership maintenance. Additionally, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha urged officials to utilize the Prime Minister Gati Shakti scheme for TUDA projects. The Chief Minister also instructed concerned officials to expedite the completion of the ongoing lighthouse project in the Golchakkar area of Agartala. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the appointment of economic advisers to effectively manage TUDA operations.
TUDA Commissioner Tamal Majumder provided a comprehensive overview of various construction projects, including Vivekananda Township, Kunjavan Township, Lighthouse, and Asian Development Bank (ADB) projects, through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. The presentation covered the current status, progress, future plans, and actions taken based on decisions made in the previous TUDA meeting.
In the Vivekananda Market area, a township project consisting of 48 flats with G plus four floors is underway. The meeting revealed that all 48 flats have already been booked. Progress is being made on the Kunjavan Township Project and the Akhaura Golchakkar Lighthouse Project, located adjacent to Bhagat Singh Hostel. The Lighthouse project aims to construct 1,000 flats, and beneficiaries for these flats have already been selected. Additionally, with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, infrastructure development is planned for seven district headquarters and 13 urban corporation towns in the state. In the initial phase, the ADB has sanctioned Rs 530.54 crore for drinking water, road, and drainage works in 12 cities of the state. Commissioner Tamal Majumder also presented TUDA’s future plans in detail during the meeting.
