Tripura’s Tourism Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, underscored the crucial role of museums in preserving history and enlightening future generations during the celebration of International Museum Day.
The event, jointly organised by the Tourism Department of the Tripura Government and the Tourism Ministry, aimed to promote cultural heritage and raise awareness about the significance of museums.
Chowdhury said that museums have a profound impact on introducing history to future generations. He specifically highlighted the museum situated within Agartala’s Ujjayanta Palace, which showcases the achievements of the Maharajas of Tripura and Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to the state.
The museum at Ujjayanta Palace has been meticulously designed to familiarise future generations with Tripura’s vibrant cultural heritage. The Tourism Department of Tripura has implemented various initiatives to enhance the state’s visibility on the tourism map, including the Swadesh Darshan-1 and Swadesh Darshan-2 projects aimed at boosting tourism in the region.
Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary of the Department of Tourism, emphasised the importance of International Museum Day, celebrated since 1977, in preserving cultural heritage. He highlighted museums as platforms to showcase Tripura’s traditional culture and customs.
As part of the celebration, residents from the Child Care Institute at Abhaynagar had the opportunity to visit the museum. Additionally, winners of poster-making and quiz competitions held in honour of Buddha Purnima and Rabindra Jayanti were presented with prizes by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. The event concluded with a captivating cultural programme.
The state government’s commitment to developing the tourism industry aligns with its broader objectives of promoting Tripura’s heritage and attracting visitors. Museums serve as invaluable educational and cultural resources by preserving and promoting cultural artefacts and historical narratives for present and future generations.
