A preparatory meeting was recently held at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office to discuss the upcoming Kharchi Puja festival.
The meeting, presided over by MLA Ratan Chakraborty, aimed to ensure the smooth organisation of the event. Kharchi Puja and Mela, a tribal festival of the state, have gained popularity among people of all religions and attract numerous tourists and saints from different parts of the country.
During the meeting, MLA Chakraborty emphasised the significance of the festival and encouraged the officials from various departments to contribute towards making the fair a resounding success.
The District Magistrate of West Tripura District, Debapriya Bardhan, provided detailed instructions on the preparations required for the fair. This included renovating access roads to the 14 Devatabari Temple, ensuring electricity and lighting arrangements, maintaining cleanliness, providing drinking water, managing law and order, organising car parking and traffic control, installing CCTV cameras, setting up exhibit booths by government departments, and arranging health services.
To streamline the fair’s operations, an executive committee and several sub-committees were formed.
The meeting was attended by notable dignitaries such as the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumdar, and the In-Charge Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Haridulal Acharya, along with officials from various departments.
The Kharchi Puja festival holds immense cultural significance in Tripura, and the preparations discussed in the meeting reflect the collective efforts to ensure a memorable and well-organised celebration starting on June 26.
