The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the Special Summary Revision 2026–27 schedule, targeting first-time and left-out eligible voters. Integrated draft electoral rolls will be published by November 30, with the final voter list scheduled for January 21, 2027.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls for 2026–27, aiming to ensure the enrolment of left-out and first-time eligible voters across selected states and Union Territories. The final publication of the revised electoral rolls has been scheduled for January 21, 2027, while the integrated draft rolls will be prepared by November 30, 2026.

According to the Election Commission, the SSR exercise will be conducted in states and Union Territories where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has recently been completed or where its third phase is currently underway. The commission indicated that the exercise would be implemented in phases rather than as a single nationwide process.

The poll body clarified that the schedule for Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Tripura and Telangana would be announced separately.

Similarly, the revision exercise in hilly regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, will be undertaken at a later stage, considering the prevailing cold weather conditions.

As part of the announced schedule, the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations must be completed by November 20, 2026. The preparation and publication of the integrated draft electoral rolls will follow, with November 30 fixed as the deadline.

The Election Commission has allocated a period for voters and other stakeholders to submit claims and objections regarding the draft electoral rolls. According to the schedule, the window for filing claims and objections will remain open from November 30 to December 12, 2026.

The concerned authorities will be required to examine and dispose of all claims and objections by January 16, 2027. Following the completion of this process, the final electoral rolls will be published on January 21, 2027.

The commission has also issued detailed instructions for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), District Registration Officers (DROs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and other officials responsible for implementing the revision exercise.

To ensure transparency and public awareness, the respective Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) will issue press notes during the process. These updates will include photographs showing EROs handing over weekly lists of claims and objections to political parties.

The press notes will also inform political parties and the general public about the progress of the revision exercise and explain the procedures available for filing appeals.

The ECI further stated that Chief Electoral Officers would issue public information regarding the final publication of the electoral rolls, including a summary of elector details and guidance on the appeal process. The arrangements are intended to make the revision process more transparent and accessible to eligible voters.

The latest announcement follows the Election Commission’s September 29 instructions for conducting a special enrolment drive in at least 20 states and Union Territories. The initiative was specifically aimed at identifying and enrolling young people who had been left out of the electoral rolls, particularly those becoming eligible to vote for the first time.

The Special Summary Revision is an important exercise in maintaining accurate and updated electoral records. It provides eligible citizens with an opportunity to verify their details, register as new voters and raise objections if their names or particulars are incorrectly recorded.

For Tripura, the Election Commission has clarified that the detailed SSR schedule will be announced separately. Therefore, eligible first-time voters and people whose names may have been left out of the electoral rolls will need to follow subsequent announcements from the state election authorities.

With the January 21, 2027 deadline for final publication, the Election Commission aims to complete the revision process after providing sufficient time for enrolment, verification, claims, objections and appeals. The exercise is expected to strengthen electoral participation by ensuring that eligible citizens are included in the updated voter lists.
