Agartala will host the fifth edition of the Maayer Gomon Carnival on October 23, 2026, with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurating the event. Foreign diplomatic representatives, prominent Durga Puja committees and government officials are expected to attend.

Agartala is preparing to host the fifth edition of the ‘Maayer Gomon’ Carnival on October 23, bringing this year’s Durga Puja celebrations to a grand conclusion. The event is expected to attract large crowds, with foreign diplomatic representatives, senior government officials and prominent personalities likely to attend the festivities.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha is scheduled to inaugurate the carnival at 5 pm. Members of the state Cabinet, Members of Parliament, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and other dignitaries are also expected to participate in the programme.

According to preliminary information shared by the organisers, representatives from the embassies of the United States, Russia and Bangladesh have been invited and are expected to attend. Their anticipated participation is expected to add an international dimension to the cultural event.

The Maayer Gomon Carnival has gradually developed into a prominent cultural attraction in Agartala, bringing together Durga Puja organisers from different parts of the city and neighbouring areas for a collective farewell to Goddess Durga. The event provides a platform for puja committees to showcase their artistic creations, elaborate decorations and cultural traditions before the festive season concludes.

Since 2024, the area in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School has served as the principal venue for the carnival. The location has become an important gathering point for participating puja committees and visitors who come to witness the colourful procession and cultural displays.

A large number of prominent Durga Puja committees have registered to participate in this year’s edition. Their participation is expected to highlight the diversity of artistic themes, craftsmanship and community involvement that characterise Durga Puja celebrations across Agartala.

Preparations for the event are being coordinated by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department and Agartala Municipal Corporation, with support from several other government departments and agencies. The Public Works Department, Rural Development Department, Horticulture Department and Electricity Department are involved in arrangements for the programme.

Police and other law enforcement agencies are also participating in the preparations to help maintain security and manage the expected gathering. Coordination among the departments is aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the carnival and providing a safe environment for residents, visitors and participating organisations.

With preparations underway, the fifth Maayer Gomon Carnival is set to serve as the concluding highlight of Agartala’s Durga Puja festivities on October 23. Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to witness the participating committees’ displays and experience the cultural atmosphere as the city bids farewell to Goddess Durga.
