Bangladesh is preparing to seek the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Faisal during the upcoming Bangladesh-India consular dialogue, with the meeting expected to address key bilateral legal and diplomatic issues.
Bangladesh will strongly demand the extradition of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Faisal, an accused in the Sharif Osman Bin Hadi murder case, during the upcoming fifth Bangladesh-India consular dialogue. This will mark the first formal diplomatic meeting between the two nations following the July 2024 mass uprising.
Diplomatic sources indicated that Bangladesh proposed holding the meeting in late October. However, India expressed interest in scheduling it in early November due to Durga Puja.
Earlier in December 2024, Dhaka sent a diplomatic note requesting Hasina’s extradition. It reiterated the request following a verdict from the tribunal.
Sources further added that this critical director general-level meeting will take place ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s prospective visit to India. Diplomatic sources confirmed that the extradition issue will be raised with top priority during the bilateral dialogue.
