Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath inaugurated two 132 KV sub-stations in Sabroom and Satchand, South Tripura, built at a combined cost of Rs. 113.93 crore. The projects aim to improve electricity reliability for 37,548 consumers across remote and border areas.

Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday inaugurated two newly constructed 132 KV sub-stations at Sabroom and Satchand in South Tripura, marking a significant step towards strengthening the state’s electricity transmission network and improving power supply in remote and border areas. The two projects have been developed at a combined cost of approximately Rs. 113.93 crore and are expected to benefit 37,548 electricity consumers across the region.

The Minister described the commissioning of the twin sub-stations as an important milestone in Tripura’s efforts to modernise its power infrastructure and meet the growing demand for electricity. Implemented by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), with financial assistance from the Government of India and the World Bank, the projects aim to improve transmission capacity, strengthen grid connectivity, reduce system constraints and provide a more reliable electricity supply to households, businesses and public institutions.

The 132 KV Sabroom sub-station, the larger of the two projects, has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 66.19 crore. Work on the project began in March 2021 and involved the construction of a dedicated 132 KV sub-station, a two-storey control room building and a 132 KV double-circuit transmission line connecting Belonia with Sabroom.

The Sabroom facility has been equipped with two 31.5 MVA 132/33 KV transformers and two 10 MVA 33/11 KV transformers. The new transmission infrastructure connects the sub-station with Belonia and Satchand, strengthening the electricity transmission network across southern Tripura.

According to the information provided, the commissioning of the Sabroom sub-station is expected to improve voltage regulation, enhance supply stability and reduce power-related difficulties in Sabroom and neighbouring areas. The project is expected to benefit 21,398 electricity consumers across Sabroom, Baishnabpur, Monughat, Harina, Bankul, the Integrated Check Post area, Ludhua, Rupaichari and nearby localities.

The second project, the 132 KV Satchand sub-station, has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 47.83 crore. Construction began in January 2021, with POWERGRID executing the project with support from the Government of India and the World Bank.

The Satchand project includes a newly constructed 132 KV sub-station, a two-storey control room building and a transmission line connecting Satchand with Bogafa. Like the Sabroom facility, it has two 31.5 MVA 132/33 KV transformers and two 10 MVA 33/11 KV transformers.

The transmission infrastructure links the Satchand sub-station with the power network at Bogafa and Sabroom, helping create a stronger and more interconnected electricity grid in the southern part of the state.

Speaking about the project’s significance, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the operationalisation of the Satchand sub-station would help establish a more dependable and efficient electricity supply system for residents of the area. He emphasised that stronger power infrastructure was necessary not only to improve services for existing consumers but also to support economic activities and future development.

The Satchand sub-station is expected to directly benefit 16,150 electricity consumers in Satchand, Manubazar, Shakbari, Magurchara, Kalachara, Bhurakhali, Sindukpathar, Rajibnagar, Srinagar and surrounding localities.

Together, the two projects are expected to improve electricity transmission and distribution across a substantial part of South Tripura. Reliable power supply is particularly important in remote and border areas, where stronger infrastructure can support households, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, commercial establishments and other essential services.

The commissioning of the sub-stations also represents an investment in the region’s future electricity requirements. By expanding transmission capacity and strengthening connections between existing power facilities, the projects are intended to help accommodate rising demand and improve the resilience of the electricity network.

With a combined investment of approximately Rs. 113.93 crore, the Sabroom and Satchand sub-stations are expected to play an important role in modernising South Tripura’s power infrastructure. The initiatives underline the importance of strengthening electricity services to support regional development, improve consumer experience and provide a more stable power supply to thousands of families across the district.
