Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the state’s first government homoeopathic medical college and Netaji Subhas Homoeopathic Hospital in Agartala, expanding affordable medical education and healthcare opportunities while announcing upcoming Ayurvedic and private medical institutions.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday said the Tripura government has significantly expanded opportunities for students to pursue medical education within the state at comparatively affordable costs, reducing the financial burden on families who earlier had to send their children outside Tripura.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Tripura Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Netaji Subhas Homoeopathic Hospital at Renters Colony in Agartala.

Saha said the opening of the homoeopathic medical college has further widened the scope of medical education in Tripura, where opportunities are now available in MBBS, dental sciences, nursing and BHMS. He announced that the state would also introduce facilities for Ayurvedic medical education, with an Ayurvedic hospital set to become operational.

“In the past, opportunities for our students to study medicine within the state were very limited. Families had to spend substantial amounts to send their children outside Tripura. The situation has changed considerably with the establishment and expansion of medical colleges in the state,” the Chief Minister said.

Saha said the government was also encouraging private investment in the healthcare and medical education sectors. He announced that the Shija Group would set up a modern medical college and hospital in Tripura at an estimated investment of around Rs 700 crore.

He further said another medical college would be established in Dhalai district in the coming days.

The Chief Minister maintained that the expansion of medical institutions was not only increasing educational and healthcare opportunities but also contributing to economic activity and improving the quality of life in the areas where such institutions are being established.

Referring to the overall investment scenario, Saha said maintaining peace, communal harmony and a sound law-and-order situation was essential for development. He claimed that private investment proposals worth around Rs 1.32 lakh crore had recently begun coming to the state because of the prevailing conducive environment.

Saha said the government believed in delivering on its commitments through action and was implementing development programmes following the path shown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tripura, he said, had made significant progress in healthcare as well as other development indicators.

Addressing the first batch of students and faculty members of the newly inaugurated homoeopathic medical college, the Chief Minister said they would have the distinction of being associated with the institution from its inception. He also noted that modern technology was increasingly being incorporated into homoeopathic treatment and urged medical students and professionals to take up challenges in order to gain experience and improve healthcare delivery.
