Indian Army’s Spear Corps organized a comprehensive Swachh Bharat cleanliness and environmental awareness drive at Agartala Military Station, reinforcing personal hygiene, sustainable waste management, groundwater recharge, and ecological stewardship to bolster soldier health and operational readiness across the North-Eastern frontier.
Reinforcing its long-standing dedication to environmental conservation and disciplined living, the Indian Army’s Spear Corps organized an extensive educational and awareness drive for troops stationed at the Agartala Military Station on Tuesday. The event was held as part of the nationwide Swachh Bharat Campaign, aligning closely with the national spirit of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ initiative.
The day-long program was designed to integrate ecological mindfulness, civic responsibility, and personal hygiene into the daily routines and administrative protocols of military personnel. By embedding sustainability into routine garrison management, the initiative seeks to foster enduring environmental stewardship alongside core military duties.
The campaign commenced with a keynote address underscoring the philosophy, national significance, and foundational goals of the Swachh Bharat movement. Senior leadership highlighted that civic cleanliness and environmental protection are not secondary tasks, but rather direct reflections of professional military discipline, national pride, and operational excellence.
Following the keynote, interactive workshops focused on active environmental preservation. Soldiers engaged in detailed discussions on the direct environmental consequences of daily personal habits, exploring ways to minimize single-use plastics, practice resource conservation, and reduce operational carbon footprints. Troops were motivated to adopt energy-efficient routines to preserve fragile regional ecosystems.
Addressing the critical connection between personnel well-being and operational efficiency, an Army Medical Officer conducted a clinical awareness seminar. The medical session focused on foundational pillars: rigorous personal hygiene, barracks sanitation, preventative healthcare, and infection control across troop accommodations.
A central component of the workshop focused on modern waste management protocols built around the four principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recharge. Service members received practical training on organic waste segregation, composting, minimizing non-biodegradable packaging, and supporting groundwater replenishment via station rainwater harvesting units.
