CM Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated a new ICU at the Super Specialty Block and Central Sterile Services Department at AGMC and GBP Hospital, strengthening critical care, infection control, sterilisation facilities and quality healthcare services in Tripura.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated two newly developed healthcare facilities at AGMC and GBP Hospital in Agartala, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Super Specialty Block and the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). The new facilities are expected to strengthen critical care services and improve infection control and sterilisation management at one of Tripura’s major referral hospitals.
The inauguration marks another step towards expanding and modernising healthcare infrastructure at AGMC and GBP Hospital. The newly established ICU is expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised treatment and critical care to seriously ill patients requiring continuous medical monitoring and advanced healthcare support.
The Central Sterile Services Department is also expected to play an important role in improving sterilisation and infection-control practices within the hospital. The facility will support the systematic management of sterilisation services, contributing to safer healthcare delivery and better infection-prevention measures.
MLA Meena Rani Sarkar attended the inauguration programme as the special guest, while Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gittey was present as the guest of honour. Senior doctors, healthcare professionals and other officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department also attended the programme.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the state government remains committed to ensuring improved medical services for every citizen while continuously expanding and modernising the healthcare infrastructure of Tripura.
He said the government has been undertaking several initiatives to upgrade healthcare facilities and strengthen infrastructure at GBP Hospital. According to the Chief Minister, the expansion and modernisation of healthcare infrastructure are aimed at improving the availability of quality medical services and strengthening the state’s overall healthcare system.
Dr. Saha highlighted the importance of the newly inaugurated facilities in improving the hospital’s healthcare capabilities. He said the modern ICU would increase the capacity to provide treatment to critically ill patients, while the CSSD would contribute to better infection control and sterilisation services.
The new facilities are expected to improve patient management and support healthcare professionals in providing advanced medical care at GBP Hospital. The addition of the ICU at the Super Specialty Block is particularly significant for critical-care services, where patients require specialised monitoring and timely medical intervention.
The CSSD, meanwhile, is expected to strengthen the hospital’s sterilisation infrastructure and support safer clinical procedures across different departments. Improved sterilisation and infection-control systems are an important component of quality hospital management and patient safety.

With the inauguration of the new ICU and CSSD, AGMC and GBP Hospital has further expanded its healthcare infrastructure. The facilities are expected to support the hospital in delivering more efficient, advanced and quality medical services to patients from Tripura and surrounding areas.
