TET-qualified aspirants in Tripura have served a one-week ultimatum to TRBT and the state government, demanding appointments and warning of a protest march to Chief Minister Manik Saha’s residence on September 24.
TET-qualified aspirants in Tripura have intensified their demand for appointments, serving a one-week ultimatum to the state government and the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), over what they described as prolonged delays in the recruitment process. The aspirants announced that they would organise a protest march to Chief Minister Manik Saha’s residence on September 24 if their demand for appointments is not addressed.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Wednesday, where representatives of the TET-qualified candidates alleged that they had repeatedly attempted to meet the Chief Minister as well as the state Education Minister to place their grievances directly before the government. According to the aspirants, however, their efforts to meet the ministers were unsuccessful.
“Our primary intention is to express our concerns directly to the Chief Minister. Instead of giving us an opportunity, we have been detained, thwarted and threatened to avoid organising any movements,” one of the representatives said.
The aspirants said their demand was limited to the appointment of those who had qualified and completed the necessary stages of the recruitment process. They claimed that 1,856 candidates are currently waiting for the recruitment process to move forward after qualifying in examinations held in 2025.
They alleged that despite the passage of considerable time, the recruitment process has repeatedly faced obstacles. The representatives said that unless the government takes concrete steps within one week, they will proceed with a march towards the Chief Minister’s residence on September 24.
The candidates also sharply criticised the functioning of TRBT, alleging that the recruitment board itself has contributed to delays by taking issues that could allegedly have been resolved administratively to the courts.
“The TRBT is itself responsible for the unnecessary delays in the recruitment process. The problems that this board can resolve using its discretionary powers are intentionally taken to the court of law, leading to delays. Eventually, the board fails to establish its point in court,” an aspirant leader alleged.
The candidates cited two instances to support their allegations. The first concerned a question that appeared in both the 2022 and 2025 examinations, where they claimed the answer keys differed. According to the aspirants, candidates who raised objections were not given adequate consideration by TRBT and were instead asked to approach the court.
The second issue, according to the aspirants, concerned the acceptance of NIOS DElED degrees. They alleged that TRBT initially refused to accept such qualifications despite the programme having government support, resulting in candidates approaching the court.
The aspirants further claimed that around 10 to 12 questions are challenged every year despite the involvement of subject experts in preparing examination papers. They argued that such disputes should be resolved promptly so that the recruitment process does not remain stalled.
The controversy comes amid continuing recruitment activity involving TET-qualified candidates in Tripura. In April 2025, the state government handed appointment letters to 228 TET-qualified candidates for undergraduate and graduate teacher positions.
TRBT has also continued recruitment-related procedures. Its 2026 recruitment notification covered posts of Undergraduate Teacher and Graduate Teacher, with document scrutiny and subsequent recommendation linked to merit and available vacancies.

The aspirants, however, maintain that their immediate concern is the pending recruitment of the 1,856 candidates they say are awaiting further action. They have called for the recruitment process to be completed without further delay and warned that they will intensify their movement if their demand remains unaddressed.
The latest ultimatum has therefore put pressure on the government and TRBT to respond before the September 24 deadline announced by the protesting candidates.
