Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted blood donation as a noble humanitarian service during Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi celebrations in Rajnagar, urging citizens across Tripura to support blood donation drives, social welfare initiatives, community harmony and humanitarian service.
Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and Ramnagar MLA Dipak Majumder emphasized the importance of blood donation as a noble humanitarian service while inaugurating a blood donation and cloth distribution programme organized at the premises of Baitul Aman Jame Masjid in Rajnagar on Sunday as part of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi observances.
Addressing the gathering, Majumder said that blood donation is a selfless act of service that rises above barriers of caste, creed and community. He urged citizens from all sections of society to come forward and participate in blood donation camps and other humanitarian initiatives to support people in need.
The Mayor noted that social and welfare programmes are organized every year to mark Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. He said this year’s initiative carried special significance as maintaining sufficient blood supplies remains an important requirement across Tripura’s 12 government-run blood banks.
Majumder appreciated the contribution of various organizations and social groups involved in arranging blood donation programmes across the state. According to him, the appeal made by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has encouraged different organizations and sections of society to step forward and organize blood donation drives.
“Those who have come forward for this humanitarian cause deserve our heartfelt thanks. I urge people from all sections of society to keep participating in such social and humanitarian programs in the future,” Majumder said.
The programme brought together religious observance and community service, highlighting the importance of extending the spirit of compassion beyond the celebrations themselves. The blood donation camp witnessed strong participation from local residents, reflecting growing public awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation.
Alongside the blood donation drive, a cloth distribution programme was also organized during the event. Dignitaries distributed garments among local residents as part of the welfare initiative, reinforcing the message of compassion, inclusion and support for people in need.
Several prominent personalities attended the programme, including Minority Chairman Jasim Uddin, TRTC Chairman Samar Roy, municipal councillors Nitu Dey and Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya, and Ramnagar Mandal president Amitabh Bhattacharjee.
Their participation reflected a collective effort to combine the religious significance of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi with meaningful social service. The initiative also demonstrated how community programmes associated with religious occasions can contribute to public welfare and strengthen social bonds.
Local residents welcomed the programme and expressed appreciation for the organizers’ efforts to connect Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi celebrations with tangible humanitarian activities. The combination of blood donation and cloth distribution provided an opportunity for people to contribute directly to the welfare of others.
Speaking at the event, Majumder’s emphasis on blood donation also highlighted the continuing need for adequate blood supplies in government hospitals and blood banks. Voluntary blood donation remains an important community service, particularly for patients requiring blood during medical emergencies, surgeries and other critical situations.
The Rajnagar programme therefore served not only as part of the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi observance but also as a platform for promoting humanitarian service, social responsibility and community participation.
