Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) will dispatch a record 15.31-tonne tea consignment to The Chatterjee Group on September 11, marking its largest tea shipment outside the state and strengthening Tripura’s efforts to expand commercial markets for locally produced tea.
Tripura is set to achieve a major milestone in the marketing and commercial expansion of its tea industry, with the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) preparing to dispatch a record 15,310 kilograms, or 15.31 metric tonnes, of tea to The Chatterjee Group (TCG) outside the state.
According to TTDC Managing Director Rajesh Das, the consignment will be the largest single shipment of tea ever dispatched outside Tripura by the state-owned corporation. The development is being viewed as an important step in expanding the commercial reach of tea produced in the state and establishing stronger links with major buyers outside Tripura.
The entire consignment has already been prepared by TTDC and is scheduled to be formally dispatched on September 11 from the Brahmakunda Tea Factory. The programme is expected to bring together senior officials and stakeholders associated with the production, marketing and promotion of Tripura tea.
TTDC Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh is expected to attend the programme. Joydeep Bhattacharya, an adviser to Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, Chairman of The Chatterjee Group, is also expected to be present during the dispatch programme.
The scale of the upcoming shipment assumes greater significance when compared with TTDC’s previous record. Earlier this year, the corporation dispatched 8,200 kilograms of tea to the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, which had remained its largest single consignment sent outside Tripura until now.
The new shipment of 15,310 kilograms is nearly twice the volume of that previous record consignment. The development highlights TTDC’s efforts to identify larger markets and establish direct commercial relationships with corporate buyers beyond the state.
The record consignment comes at a time when greater emphasis is being placed on strengthening the branding, marketing and commercial distribution of Tripura-grown tea. The state has a long-standing tea industry, and expanding access to markets outside Tripura is considered important for improving the commercial prospects of locally produced tea.
The proposed shipment to The Chatterjee Group could provide fresh momentum to these efforts by creating a stronger commercial linkage between Tripura’s tea producers and a major corporate group. Such direct market connections can help improve the visibility of Tripura tea while opening opportunities for larger-scale distribution.
For TTDC, the 15.31-tonne consignment represents more than a new record in shipment volume. It also signals an effort to move beyond traditional marketing channels and explore wider commercial opportunities for tea grown and processed in Tripura.

The September 11 dispatch from Brahmakunda Tea Factory is therefore expected to mark an important moment for TTDC as it seeks to expand the market presence of Tripura tea and build stronger business partnerships outside the state.
