The government has extended the last date for submission of applications by selected meritorious students for National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for 2026-27 to 30th September this year. The NMMSS is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Following the extension, the last date for Level-1 verification at the Institute Nodal Officer is 15th October while the last date for Level-2 verification with the District Nodal Officer is 31st October.
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme awards scholarships to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to prevent drop-out of students after elementary level that is Class eight and encourage them to complete their school education up to higher secondary level that is Class 12. The scholarship amount is 12 thousand rupees per annum per student.
The Scheme provides one lakh fresh scholarships every year for Class 9 students who clear the qualifying exam for the scholarship conducted by the State and UT governments. The scholarship is continued through renewal mode from Classes 10 to 12 based on the student’s academic performance. The scheme is applicable only to students studying in State Government, Government-aided and local body schools.
The eligibility parameters for availing the scholarship include parental income of not more than 3.50 lakh rupees per annum, a minimum of 55 per cent marks or equivalent grade in the Class 8 examination for appearing in the selection test for award of scholarship. The government has advised all the eligible students to complete their scholarship applications on the National Scholarship Portal within the extended timeline.
