Animal and Fisheries Resources Dept, Bihar advises people not to consume fish caught from floodwaters

Must Read

Amid the floods in Nepal and the rising water levels of rivers in Bihar, the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department has advised people not to consume fish caught from floodwaters. According to the department, during floods, fish may come into contact with sewage, dead animals and other contaminated substances, increasing the risk of contamination by bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. Consumption of such fish may be harmful to health.
The department has clarified that fish caught from floodwaters should not be used for consumption until the floodwater has stabilised and the condition of water bodies has returned to normal. The department has also appealed to people not to consume fish that appear unknown or unusual. People have been advised to avoid buying, selling or consuming fish caught from floodwaters.
