Census workers in Udaipur, Tripura, seek seven days of compensatory leave and clarity on Rs 9,000 payment after completing the month-long Census-2027 first-phase exercise across three blocks and one municipal council.
Government employees engaged in the first phase of the Census-2027 exercise in Udaipur subdivision have raised concerns over compensatory leave and the procedure for receiving their allocated payment after completing the month-long census-related duties.
The first phase of the census exercise was conducted from August 1 to 30 across Tripura, along with the rest of the country. In Udaipur subdivision, the exercise covered three blocks and one municipal council, with government servants assigned to carry out household visits and other census-related responsibilities.
Employees involved in the exercise said they had worked throughout the month, including on several scheduled holidays. According to them, they performed census duties on around seven holidays during August, visiting households and completing assigned responsibilities despite those days being part of their regular holiday schedule.
The employees have therefore urged the Gomati district administration to provide at least seven days of compensatory leave in recognition of the holidays on which they were engaged in census work.
Another major concern raised by the employees is related to the payment allocated for the first phase of the exercise. The workers said that Rs 9,000 had been allocated for their census-related duties. However, even after completing the exercise and submitting the required documents, they said they had not been asked to provide their bank account details for processing the payment.
Employees reportedly approached office staff to seek clarification on the payment process. They were allegedly informed that no instructions had been received from higher authorities regarding the collection of bank account details. As a result, the employees said the payment process remained unclear even after the completion of their assigned work.
The concerns over compensatory leave and payment procedures have reportedly created dissatisfaction among government servants who participated in the census exercise. With the first phase ending on August 30, employees are seeking clear instructions from the concerned authorities regarding both issues.
The employees have appealed to the Tripura government, Gomati district administration and Udaipur subdivision administration to address their concerns and provide clarity on the compensatory leave and payment process at the earliest.

They are particularly seeking recognition for the holidays spent performing census duties and a transparent mechanism for disbursing the allocated Rs 9,000 payment to eligible personnel.
