Tripura CM Manik Saha says the public deeply trusts the media, highlighting journalists’ role in protecting rights, strengthening democracy, ensuring accountability and supporting the state’s development while inaugurating a new lift at Agartala Press Club.

Agartala Journalists are always active in establishing people’s fundamental rights and justice. The media is the voice of the common people and the mirror of society. The general public places immense trust in the media. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said this today while inaugurating the newly installed lift at Agartala Press Club. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that it is necessary to move beyond individual practice and give greater importance to collective ideology. Performing one’s duty is not a personal achievement only by moving away from this notion can many problems find simple solutions.

Speaking about the Task Monitoring System at the event, the Chief Minister said that nowhere else in India does a Chief Minister organize fortnightly discussion meetings with the state’s top administrative officials based on news published in various media. As a result, administrative accountability is increasing day by day, while the importance of the media in governance is also becoming evident. He expressed hope that the media would also view the various steps taken under this initiative in a positive light and play a strong role in the state’s development. At the event, the Chief Minister raised the issue of the murders of Shantanu Bhowmik and Sudip Datta Bhowmik, saying that repeated efforts are being made at the relevant levels to uncover the true facts behind these two killings.

Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Department of Information and Culture, Kiran Gitte, said that due to the media’s role, democracy in India has remained strong and robust over the past 80 years. The present state government is a media-friendly government. Therefore, whenever any demand has been raised by the media, the government has made efforts to fulfill it. Speaking at the event, Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar said that no other state government in the entire country has undertaken as many welfare projects for journalists or provided as much support for infrastructural development.
