Tripura secured over 360 national and regional awards in eight years, reflecting people-friendly governance, administrative transparency, development initiatives, investment growth, education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure achievements, CM Dr. Manik Saha said at the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Agartala.
Tripura has secured more than 360 national and regional awards over the past eight years, reflecting the state government’s focus on people-friendly governance, transparent administration and development-oriented policies, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said while addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala.
Addressing the gathering, Saha highlighted the state’s achievements across governance, economy, agriculture, education, healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, social welfare and public security. He said the government remained committed to creating greater economic opportunities and improving the quality of life of nearly 40 lakh people across Tripura.
According to the Chief Minister, Tripura’s State GDP has doubled within six years, while its per capita income has reached a level comparable with the national average. He said the state had also made significant progress in digital governance, with Tripura becoming the only state in the country to introduce e-office from the highest levels of administration down to the Panchayat level.
Saha further said Tripura had secured the first position nationally for two consecutive years under the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation exercise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also congratulated the state for the achievement, he added.
Investment and Economic Development
Highlighting investment opportunities, the Chief Minister said reforms under Ease of Doing Business had received an encouraging response at the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026. The event attracted investors from different parts of India and abroad.
The state government has signed 468 Memoranda of Understanding involving proposed investments worth Rs. 1.32 lakh crore across several sectors. The agreements are expected to contribute to industrial development, employment generation and economic expansion in the coming years.
Saha also highlighted achievements in local governance. Sepahijala Zilla Parishad was declared the Best District Panchayat in the country under the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat in Unakoti district was also recognised as the country’s Best Healthy Panchayat.
The Chief Minister said Tripura had emerged as the third 100 per cent literate state, with the state’s literacy rate crossing 95 per cent.
Agriculture and Rural Development
The government’s initiatives in agriculture and allied sectors were also highlighted during the Independence Day address. Under PM-KISAN, financial assistance was directly credited to 2.30 lakh farmers during the past year.
A total of Rs. 438 crore in Kisan Credit Card loans was disbursed to 56,600 farmers. Under the Mukhyamantri Prani Sampad Bikash Yojana, 30,414 beneficiaries received assistance, while 21,311 animals were brought under insurance coverage.
More than 1.10 lakh fishermen also received benefits under the Group Accident Insurance scheme.
To expand Tripura’s presence in the global agarwood market, the government is establishing the Agar International Trade and Research Centre and an Integrated Agarwood Cluster at Kadamtala.
Tourism and Cultural Infrastructure
Tourism infrastructure is receiving increased attention, with construction underway for replicas of 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Udaipur.
Several important tourism destinations, including Kasba Kalibari, Chaturdash Devta Temple, Sonamukhi, Kailashahar, Chabimura, Amarsagar and Fatiksagar, are being developed with assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
A 100-bed Taj Hotel is also being developed at Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala. The government is simultaneously implementing projects under the Matabari Tourism Circuit to strengthen Tripura’s religious and cultural tourism potential.
The Chief Minister also referred to the sporting achievement of Tripura’s Asmita Dey, who won India’s first-ever gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games 2026, describing it as a significant milestone for the state and the country.
Healthcare and Education
Saha said Tripura was making considerable progress in healthcare and medical education. The Tripura University of Health Sciences is being established, while nine successful kidney transplant procedures have already been performed.
New hospitals are being constructed in Khowai and Sepahijala districts as well as in Jirania, Mohanpur and Udaipur. The Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital has also introduced evening OPD services to improve access to healthcare.
Under PMJAY, more than 5.70 lakh beneficiaries have received cashless treatment, with claims worth Rs. 307 crore settled. The government is also preparing to introduce new homoeopathic and Ayurvedic medical institutions from the 2026-27 academic year.
In education, 125 Vidyajyoti Schools are functioning as hubs of excellence. The government has distributed 1,64,309 bicycles to Class IX girls to encourage continued education and improve access to schools.
Youth and Women Empowerment
More than 12,000 youths have completed training under the Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa, with around 2,200 securing employment after training.
Women’s participation in the rural economy has also expanded significantly. Around 4.96 lakh rural women have been mobilised into 55,693 Self Help Groups. These groups have received Rs. 837 crore in community funds and Rs. 2,400 crore in bank credit.
Infrastructure and Connectivity
The Chief Minister said preparations were underway for the four-laning of the Agartala-Churaibari and Agartala-Udaipur national highways, aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic activity.
Irrigation facilities currently cover 1,24,000 hectares out of 2,55,000 hectares of cultivable land. Drinking water facilities have been extended to 6.49 lakh rural households.
Last year, the government procured 52,238 metric tonnes of paddy from farmers, providing support to agricultural producers and strengthening the procurement system.
Security and Social Welfare
Saha said major crimes in the state declined by around 10 per cent last year. Anti-narcotics operations conducted under the Nesha Mukt Abhiyan resulted in record seizures, while the Emergency Response Support System recorded average police response times of eight minutes in Agartala and 14 minutes in other parts of the state.
Under the Quadripartite Agreement, 6,935 Bru families have been resettled across 12 locations in four districts. Around 6,000 Bru youths have also received skill development training.
Under PM-JANMAN initiatives, the government is providing pucca houses, electrification, Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, Anganwadi centres, hostels and improved connectivity in remote habitations. Social security coverage has expanded to more than 3.87 lakh beneficiaries.
Independence Day Parade
The state-level Independence Day programme featured participation from 16 security and non-security platoons.
The BSF secured first position in the security category, followed by the Assam Rifles and West Tripura Police. In the non-security category, Assam Rifles Public School emerged first, followed by the NCC Girls platoon and Civil Defence.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha presented prizes to the winning teams. The celebrations concluded with colourful cultural programmes presented by various government departments.
