Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurates six projects and lays foundation stones for 12 others worth Rs 45.18 crore in Unakoti, highlighting development, tourism, connectivity, healthcare, education and employment.
Ensuring that the benefits of development reach people at the last mile of society is the government’s core goal. The state government is working with emphasis on every sector, education, health, road connectivity, drinking water, electricity, agriculture, rural development, urban development, information technology, sports, and social security. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said this today while inaugurating 6 projects and laying the foundation stone for 12 projects at a function held at the Dolugaon Higher Secondary School ground.
The inauguration and foundation-laying of these 18 development projects involves an expenditure of Rs 45 crore 18 lakh 61 thousand. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that since December 6, 2022, a total of 56 projects have been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid in Unakoti district, for which about Rs 197 crore 68 lakh has been allocated. With today’s projects worth Rs. 45 crore 18 lakh 61 thousand added to this, development activities in the district will gain further momentum.
Praising the ‘Clean and Green Unakoti’ initiative, the Chief Minister said tourism infrastructure is being developed keeping in view Unakoti’s historical, archaeological, and religious heritage.
Unakoti is an important historical and tourism site respected not just in Tripura or India, but internationally. Through the growth of the tourism industry, opportunities for local economic development and employment can be further expanded. Besides Unakoti, the government is working to make various tourist destinations across the state including Dumboor, Matabari, Neermahal, and Ujjayanta Palace more attractive.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of air connectivity for tourism development in Unakoti and North Tripura. He said discussions are ongoing with the central government regarding extending the runway length of Kailashahar Airport, and the state government will cooperate on land acquisition if needed. He also mentioned the initiative to convert Pushpabanta Palace into a five-star hotel to boost the state’s tourism industry. If implemented, this project would generate employment, expand tourism, and positively impact the state’s economy.
Regarding the investment climate in the state, the Chief Minister said the 2026 ‘Destination Tripura Business Summit’ saw greater investor participation than expected, with about 1,200 investors attending. This resulted in investment proposals worth approximately Rs 1,32,000 crore. He also noted that among earlier investment proposals, projects worth about Rs 8,000 crore have already reached the implementation stage.
The Chief Minister said that the state’s development will not be confined to the capital or a few select cities. The government’s goal is to deliver the benefits of development to every district, sub-division, village, and remote area.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, public representatives, government employees, and the administration are working together as ‘Team Tripura’. He further said that through the ‘ Good governance at Every Doorstep’ programme, government services are being delivered to people’s doorsteps. Special attention is being given to ensuring people don’t have to repeatedly visit government offices for certificates and various welfare and public services.
Chief Minister said notable changes have also come in this area. Special emphasis has been placed on improving the state’s connectivity and infrastructure through the ‘Act East Policy’, making it easier to connect with different parts of the state and increasingly attractive for investment in Tripura. He said about Rs 10,000 crore has been allocated this financial year for infrastructure development and capital expenditure, a significant increase from about Rs 7,000 crore the previous year.
Last financial year, development projects worth about Rs 1,500 crore were inaugurated or had foundation stones laid. This financial year, public-welfare projects worth about Rs 440 crore have already been inaugurated or had foundation stones laid. The Chief Minister said that thanks to peace and a healthy environment, Tripura’s connectivity and investment landscape have seen notable transformation.
The Chief Minister said that although rains have disrupted road work in some areas, concerned departments have been instructed to quickly repair roads and make them motorable. He said some problems are natural when development work is ongoing, but the government’s goal is not to halt work but to keep development moving forward by resolving issues.
On health infrastructure, the Chief Minister said trauma centers are being set up in various districts, and initiatives will be taken to establish trauma centers in North Tripura and Unakoti districts as well, in phases. He said the infrastructure and necessary renovation of Kailashahar hospital will also be reviewed with due importance.
The Chief Minister said Unakoti’s development will lay a strong foundation not only for the present generation but for generations to come. Through continuous development in every sector education, health, connectivity, drinking water, electricity, agriculture, and employment the government’s goal is to make people’s lives easier, safer, more comfortable, and more advanced.
21 Eklavya schools have been set up for the educational benefit of tribal students, and smart classes have been introduced in various schools. He said development is truly successful only when its benefits reach the people at the last mile of society. A strong and prosperous Tripura can only be built by ensuring equal development and welfare for all sections of people.
Speaking at the event, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy gave a detailed account of various development works in Kailashahar sub-division. He said that combining the construction and development of important infrastructure such as the DM office, sub-divisional office, labour office, and de-addiction hospital, work worth about Rs 650 crore has been undertaken in Kailashahar sub-division. At the event, a goods transport vehicle was handed over to a beneficiary under the SVEP (AGEY) scheme, and two girl students of Dolugaon Higher Secondary School were given bicycles. Two differently-abled beneficiaries were given wheelchairs and hearing aids.

Guests of honour present at the event included Chairperson of Kailashahar Municipal Council Chapala Rani Debbarma, Chairman of the Tripura State Waqf Board Mabaswar Ali, Unakoti Zilla Parishad member Bimal Kar, and Unakoti District Superintendent of Police Rishav. The function was presided over by Amalendu Das, Sabhadhipati of Unakoti Zilla Parishad. The welcome address was delivered by Megha Jain, District Magistrate and Collector of Unakoti district.
