President of India Droupadi Murmu will address the nation on Friday, August 14, on the eve of the country’s 80th Independence Day. The annual presidential address is expected to set the tone for the nationwide celebrations marking India’s historic milestone and reflect on the country’s journey, achievements, challenges and aspirations.

According to an official communication issued late on Thursday, President Murmu’s address will be broadcast at 7 pm across the entire national network of Akashvani. The speech will also be telecast simultaneously on all Doordarshan channels, allowing citizens across the country to listen to the President’s message ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The address will first be delivered in Hindi, followed by its English version. Doordarshan has also made arrangements for regional-language broadcasts so that the President’s message can reach audiences across different parts of the country in their respective languages.

Following the Hindi and English telecasts, Doordarshan’s regional channels will carry translated versions of the address. Akashvani will additionally broadcast regional-language versions at 9:30 pm on its respective regional networks, ensuring wider accessibility for listeners in different states and regions.

The President’s address on the eve of Independence Day is a longstanding national tradition. Each year, it provides an opportunity to reflect on India’s progress since Independence while acknowledging the contributions and sacrifices that shaped the nation. The address also generally highlights national priorities, challenges and the aspirations of citizens for the future.

This year’s presidential message carries particular significance as India celebrates its 80th Independence Day. The occasion marks eight decades since the country achieved Independence in 1947 and provides an opportunity to look back on India’s democratic journey, economic development, social transformation and progress across various sectors.

The broadcast arrangements have been designed to ensure that the address reaches the maximum possible audience. Officials said Doordarshan’s terrestrial and satellite channels will relay the speech, while digital platforms will also provide access to viewers following the national address.

The President’s message will come a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s traditional Independence Day address from the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15. The Prime Minister’s speech is one of the central highlights of the national celebrations and is watched by millions of citizens across India and abroad.
