Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said discussions are underway on a possible BJP–Tipra Motha alliance ahead of village committee elections, with no final decision yet. He also assured that the state government will approach the Centre over concerns about reduced flight services to Tripura.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said discussions are underway regarding a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tipra Motha ahead of the upcoming village committee elections. However, he made it clear that no final decision has been taken so far.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Saha said the alliance proposal is being actively considered and that the party’s central leadership is closely involved in the discussions. He emphasized that any decision on the issue would depend on consultations and guidance from the BJP’s central leadership.

“The issue is under discussion, but no final decision has been made yet,” the Chief Minister said, indicating that the possibility of an electoral understanding remains open.

Dr. Saha explained that regular coordination with the central leadership is part of the state government’s functioning. Such consultations cover a wide range of matters, including governance, organisational issues and political strategies for the future. According to him, the discussions held so far have been positive and constructive.

The possibility of a BJP–Tipra Motha alliance has gained political significance in Tripura as the village committee elections draw closer. Both parties have a substantial organisational and political presence in the state, making any possible understanding between them a closely watched development in political circles.

While the Chief Minister’s remarks confirmed that talks are taking place, he avoided giving any indication about the possible structure or timing of an alliance. He reiterated that the central leadership is giving the matter serious consideration before arriving at a final decision.

Meanwhile, Dr. Saha also raised another issue concerning the state’s connectivity. He addressed concerns over the reduction in flight services to Tripura and assured that the state government would take up the matter with the Centre.

The Chief Minister stressed that adequate air connectivity is important for Tripura’s residents, businesses, tourism and overall economic development. He said efforts would be made to ensure that the number of flights serving the state is not curtailed.

The two issues—possible BJP–Tipra Motha electoral coordination and flight connectivity—come at a significant time for Tripura. With the village committee elections approaching, political parties are preparing their strategies and closely monitoring possible alliances.

For now, however, the BJP–Tipra Motha alliance remains under discussion, with the final decision expected only after further consultations with the party’s central leadership.
