Tripura BJP leaders led by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha attended a crucial organisational meeting in Delhi where party strategy, internal organisational matters, electoral performance, and BJP-Tipra Motha alliance discussions ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections were reviewed by the national leadership.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership from Tripura participated in a crucial high-level organisational meeting at the party’s national headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday, where senior national leaders reviewed the party’s organisational structure, electoral performance, and future political strategy ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections.
The meeting was chaired by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh and witnessed the participation of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who led a large delegation from the Tripura BJP. The discussions focused on strengthening the party organisation, addressing internal issues, and preparing a long-term roadmap for the upcoming electoral challenges in the state.
Among those present at the meeting were BJP Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra, Tripura BJP in-charge and newly elected Silchar MLA Dr. Rajdeep Roy, newly appointed Tripura BJP President Abhishek Debroy, former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, party General Secretaries Bipin Debbarma and Bhagaban Chandra Das, Ministers Ratan Lal Nath and Tinku Roy, Speaker Rampada Jamatia, former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, former East Tripura MP Rebati Tripura, Amit Rakshit, and several members of the party’s core committee.
Following the organisational review meeting, the Tripura delegation also attended another important session chaired by BJP National President Nitin Nabin, where broader political and organisational matters concerning the northeastern states were discussed.
According to party sources, the meeting involved extensive discussions on the BJP’s recent electoral performances, organisational challenges, and strategies for strengthening the party at the grassroots level. Senior national leaders reportedly advised the Tripura leadership on measures to improve coordination, expand the party’s organisational reach, and effectively address issues affecting party workers and local units.
A significant portion of the discussions reportedly revolved around the political relationship between the BJP and its alliance partner, Tipra Motha Party. The alliance has witnessed visible strain following the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), where both parties contested separately to independently assess their political strength.
The TTAADC elections resulted in a major victory for Tipra Motha, which significantly improved its seat tally compared to the previous election. Although the BJP secured only four seats, party leaders noted that its vote share registered a considerable increase, indicating continued public support despite the limited electoral success.
Political observers believe the outcome of the TTAADC elections has prompted both parties to reassess their political strategies. With the 2028 Assembly elections approaching, there appears to be growing willingness on both sides to rebuild their alliance and contest future elections together. However, several unresolved issues continue to influence the discussions.
Sources familiar with the developments indicated that Tipra Motha has reiterated its demand for the effective implementation of the tripartite agreement signed earlier with the Central Government and the Government of Tripura. The party considers the implementation of the accord as its primary political commitment and has consistently maintained that tangible progress is essential for maintaining public confidence.
According to party insiders, the BJP’s central leadership and the Union Government are actively engaging with Tipra Motha’s concerns, particularly after analysing the political message delivered through the TTAADC election results. Discussions are reportedly aimed at addressing pending issues while ensuring political stability in Tripura.
A separate high-level meeting involving Tipra Motha leaders is expected to take place in New Delhi on either August 8 or August 9. The exact date and venue are likely to be finalised after Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman arrives in the national capital.
Sources within Tipra Motha stated that the meeting is expected to be attended by party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma. Representatives of the BJP’s national leadership and officials from the Union Home Ministry are also expected to participate, while Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will represent the Tripura Government during the discussions.
The primary objective of the proposed meeting will reportedly be to provide Tipra Motha leaders an opportunity to present their concerns regarding the implementation of the tripartite accord. Party leaders have repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of visible progress since the agreement was signed, arguing that no substantial initiatives have yet materialised on the ground.

Political sources noted that Tipra Motha joined the BJP-led ruling coalition largely on the assurance that the accord would be implemented. Over time, however, the absence of concrete developments has generated frustration among party workers and supporters. During the TTAADC election campaign, Tipra Motha strongly highlighted the accord as one of its central political issues, presenting itself as the principal advocate of tribal aspirations.
For the BJP, maintaining political stability while preserving its alliance with Tipra Motha has become increasingly important in view of the 2028 Assembly elections. Senior leaders are understood to be carefully evaluating both organisational priorities and coalition management to ensure electoral preparedness.

The Delhi meetings are therefore being viewed as an important step towards strengthening the BJP’s organisational framework in Tripura while simultaneously exploring possibilities for restoring confidence within the alliance. With crucial political discussions continuing over the coming days, the outcomes of these meetings are expected to shape the future course of politics in Tripura and influence the electoral strategy of both alliance partners in the years leading up to the next Assembly elections.
