Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath joined farmers in a paddy plantation drive at Gajaria village, Mohanpur, promoting scientific farming, high-quality seeds, modern cultivation techniques and farmer welfare while reaffirming the government’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity, rural livelihoods and food security.
Reaffirming the Tripura government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and supporting the farming community, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday participated in a paddy plantation programme at Gajaria village in Mohanpur. The initiative highlighted the importance of scientific farming, modern cultivation techniques and close engagement between policymakers and farmers to improve agricultural productivity across the state.
The plantation programme witnessed the participation of officials from the Agriculture Department, local elected representatives and a large number of farmers from the area. By planting paddy alongside cultivators, the Minister demonstrated solidarity with the farming community while encouraging the adoption of advanced agricultural practices for sustainable growth.
Addressing the gathering, Nath described agriculture as the backbone of Tripura’s economy and stressed that the prosperity of the state is directly linked to the well-being of its farmers. He noted that ensuring food security depends on the tireless dedication and hard work of cultivators who continue to contribute significantly to the state’s development.
The Minister urged farmers to embrace scientific methods of cultivation by using high-quality seeds, improved farming techniques and modern agricultural technologies. According to him, these practices have the potential to significantly enhance crop yields, improve productivity and increase farmers’ incomes.
“The government is consistently implementing farmer-centric initiatives to modernize agriculture and improve rural livelihoods,” Nath said while highlighting various schemes aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector. Sharing his personal experience after working in the paddy fields, Nath reflected on the emotional connection between farmers and the land. He said that the fragrance of the soil, feet covered in mud and the genuine smiles of farmers created an unforgettable experience that reinforced the importance of respecting those who produce the nation’s food.
In a message shared after the programme, the Minister said that encouraging farmers remains one of the government’s top priorities. He remarked that improved seeds and modern cultivation methods can help farmers achieve higher production and better economic returns.
