CPI(M) Secy and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury laid the foundation stone for the Jagannath Jiu Temple development project in Harina, Sabroom. The Rs 8.38 lakh MLA fund initiative aims to improve temple infrastructure, benefiting devotees and strengthening religious and community activities.

CPI(M) Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday laid the foundation stone for a major infrastructure development project at the Jagannath Jiu Temple in Harina under the Sabroom Assembly constituency. The initiative is expected to improve facilities for devotees while enhancing the temple’s role as an important religious and community centre.

The development work will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 8.38 lakh, funded through the MLA Local Area Development Fund. The project focuses on upgrading the temple’s infrastructure to provide better amenities for visitors and create a more convenient environment for religious ceremonies and community gatherings.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony witnessed the presence of Jagannath Jiu Temple Committee President Swapan Sarkar, committee members, public representatives, local residents, and a large gathering of devotees. The event reflected strong community participation and enthusiasm for the long-awaited development initiative.

Speaking to media persons after the ceremony, Jitendra Chaudhury said that the project would significantly benefit devotees visiting the temple by improving basic infrastructure and making religious activities more accessible. He emphasized that places of worship serve not only as centres of faith but also as important social spaces where communities come together.

According to Chaudhury, the allocation from the MLA Local Area Development Fund demonstrates a commitment to preserving religious heritage while ensuring better public facilities. He expressed confidence that the upgraded infrastructure would encourage more devotees to visit the temple and support various cultural and religious programmes held throughout the year.

Local residents and devotees welcomed the initiative, describing it as the fulfilment of a long-standing demand. They said the temple has been an integral part of the area’s religious life, and improved infrastructure would provide greater comfort to visitors while supporting the temple committee in organizing festivals and religious events more effectively.

The Jagannath Jiu Temple development project is expected to contribute to the overall enhancement of religious infrastructure in the Sabroom constituency, reinforcing the temple’s significance as both a spiritual destination and a community landmark.
