Tripura School Education Secretary Milind Dharmarao Ramteke urged school heads to become role models, strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), improve learning outcomes, enhance school monitoring, promote sports, and ensure effective implementation of the NIPUN Tripura Mission across government schools.
Emphasising quality education and stronger accountability in government schools, Tripura School Education Secretary Milind Dharmarao Ramteke on Friday urged school heads to emerge as role models for students and dedicate themselves to improving learning outcomes by strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) across the state’s education system.
Addressing a comprehensive review meeting attended by headmasters, assistant headmasters, teachers-in-charge and education officials from the Santirbazar and Sabroom subdivisions in South Tripura district, Ramteke stressed that school leadership plays a vital role in shaping the future of students. He said school heads must discharge their responsibilities with sincerity, commitment and professionalism while creating an environment that encourages academic excellence and holistic development.
The Education Secretary highlighted the importance of strengthening FLN from Balvatika to Class V, stating that a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy is essential for children’s long-term academic success. He urged educators to ensure that students acquire age-appropriate learning skills through innovative teaching methods and continuous academic support.
Ramteke also underlined the need for greater accountability and effective monitoring within the school education system. He instructed Block Resource Persons (BRPs) and Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs) to conduct regular school visits and closely monitor classroom activities while ensuring the overall development of students under their respective jurisdictions.
Further, he directed Inspectors of Schools to regularly inspect educational institutions and closely supervise the functioning of BRPs and CRPs. According to the secretary, consistent monitoring and timely interventions will help improve the quality of education and ensure better implementation of government initiatives.
Highlighting the significance of extracurricular activities, Ramteke said sports and physical education are equally important in shaping students’ personalities. He noted that participation in sports helps children develop discipline, teamwork, leadership qualities, confidence and a healthy competitive spirit, which are essential life skills beyond academics.
During the meeting, the Education Secretary also briefed participants about the proposed five-day school system and the state’s transfer policy, providing updates on administrative reforms aimed at improving the functioning of government schools.
Director of Elementary Education Samit Roy Chowdhury called upon education officials to ensure the effective implementation of the NIPUN Tripura Mission, which focuses on achieving foundational literacy and numeracy among young learners. He stressed the need to strengthen pre-primary education and promote class-appropriate learning through activity-based teaching techniques.
Roy Chowdhury instructed schools to establish and regularly utilise well-equipped NIPUN Corners during classroom teaching to make learning more interactive and engaging. He also asked headmasters and headmistresses to extend academic guidance to primary sections and directed officials to ensure the timely and accurate submission of UDISE+ data for better educational planning and monitoring.
The review meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate of South Tripura, District Education Officer Dilip Chandra Das, Officer on Special Duty in the Directorate of Elementary Education Abhijit Samajpati, OSD of the South Tripura District Education Office Kamal Debbarma, Jiban Das, along with several senior education officials.

District Education Officer Dilip Chandra Das delivered the welcome address. Officials also held detailed discussions on various challenges affecting school education and issued several directions aimed at enhancing academic standards, strengthening institutional accountability and ensuring quality education for every child in South Tripura.
The meeting reaffirmed the Tripura government’s commitment to improving foundational education, empowering school leaders and creating an effective, student-centric learning environment across government schools.
