Ajinkya Rahane retirement from international cricket has drawn heartfelt tributes from Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill. The former India vice-captain’s leadership, professionalism, and historic Australia series victory continue to inspire Indian cricket and future generations of players.

Former India cricketer Suresh Raina paid an emotional tribute to Ajinkya Rahane after the veteran batter announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable journey that spanned more than a decade across all three formats. Rahane’s retirement has prompted heartfelt messages from teammates, cricket experts, and fans, all acknowledging his immense contribution to Indian cricket and his calm leadership during some of the team’s most challenging moments.

Rahane officially announced his retirement from international cricket and all formats on Thursday. Throughout his distinguished career, the elegant right-handed batter represented India in 85 Test matches, 90 One-Day Internationals, and 20 T20 Internationals. Widely respected for his technically sound batting, resilience under pressure, and ability to perform in difficult overseas conditions, Rahane leaves behind a legacy defined by consistency, discipline, and leadership.

Among the first to react was former India batter Suresh Raina, who shared a heartfelt message on his official X account. Congratulating Rahane on an outstanding career, Raina reflected on the memorable years they spent together in the Indian dressing room.

“What a journey it’s been, Jinks @ajinkyarahane88! Congratulations on a fantastic career. It was always a pleasure sharing the dressing room and the field with you. Your humility, determination, and commitment to the team have always earned everyone’s respect,” Raina wrote.

He further wished Rahane success in the next phase of his life, saying, “Wishing you and your family all the happiness and success in this new chapter. Keep inspiring, brother. Thank you for everything you’ve done for Indian cricket.”

Rahane’s retirement also received warm appreciation from India captain Rohit Sharma, who praised his former teammate’s unwavering professionalism and dedication throughout his career. Rohit highlighted the hard work behind Rahane’s achievements and acknowledged the example he set for younger cricketers.

“We’ve shared the dressing room for so many years and I know how much hard work has gone into everything you’ve achieved. Your commitment and professionalism have always set you apart. Congratulations on a wonderful career. Best wishes!” Rohit posted on X.

India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill also joined in honouring Rahane’s contribution, especially recalling his inspirational leadership during one of the most memorable chapters in Indian cricket history.

“What a career, what a role model. Ajju bhai led us through some of Indian cricket’s toughest days and made us believe anything was possible. Thank you for the memories and the lessons on and off the field. All the best for the next innings!” Gill wrote.

Rahane’s greatest achievement undoubtedly came during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. After regular captain Virat Kohli returned home following the first Test, Rahane took charge of a depleted Indian side that had just suffered a historic defeat in Adelaide. Against all odds, he led an injury-hit squad to a remarkable 2-1 series victory, including the famous triumph at the Gabba, ending Australia’s unbeaten run at the venue. His composed captaincy and century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground remain among the defining moments of modern Indian cricket.

Over the years, Rahane earned admiration not only for his performances but also for his humility, discipline, and team-first attitude. His calm temperament and ability to guide younger players made him one of the most respected figures in the Indian dressing room.
