In the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, India advanced to the men’s and women’s team finals after defeating England in both semifinals at the Thyagaraj Stadium in Delhi today.
The top-seeded men’s team extended its unbeaten run with a dominant 3-nil win. Manush Shah beat Connor Green 11-9, 11-9, 11-6, followed by World No. 38 Manav Thakkar, who overcame Joseph Hunter 11-8, 11-4, 11-5. Veteran Harmeet Desai completed the sweep with an 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 victory over Benjamin Piggott.
The women’s team faced a tougher test but prevailed 3-1. Sreeja Akula opened with an 11-6, 11-3, 11-9 win over Cheuk Lam Jasmin Wong before England levelled through Tin-Tin Ho’s 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 victory over Yashaswini Ghorpade.
Syndrela Das restored India’s lead by defeating Anna Green 11-7, 11-4, 11-9, and Sreeja sealed the tie with a five-game win over Tin-Tin Ho, prevailing 11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9. India will face Malaysia in both the men’s and women’s team finals. Finals will be played on Sunday.
