PM Modi has constituted a high-powered task force led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to prepare a roadmap for examination reforms. The panel will recommend technology-driven measures to ensure transparent, credible and secure examinations across India following recent paper leak concerns.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for examination reforms aimed at strengthening the transparency, credibility and reliability of competitive and academic examinations across the country.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over alleged examination paper leaks that triggered widespread protests by students in recent weeks. The government hopes that the recommendations of the expert panel will help restore confidence in the country’s examination system and introduce technology-driven reforms to prevent future irregularities.
In a video statement, Prime Minister Modi said the Centre has already taken strict action against those involved in examination malpractices. He noted that individuals responsible for compromising students’ futures have been arrested and are currently facing legal proceedings. The government has also established fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials and is working towards introducing stronger legislation in Parliament with stringent legal provisions against examination fraud.
The Prime Minister emphasised that while action against offenders is essential, equal importance must be given to building a future-ready examination system that is transparent, reliable and technology-enabled.
“Our examination system needs to be reliable and transparent, and it must make maximum use of technology. Keeping these objectives in mind, we have decided to constitute a high-powered task force under the leadership of world-renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani,” Modi said.
He further stated that the task force would examine all aspects of examination reforms and submit recommendations that would enable the government to implement measures ensuring the credibility of upcoming examinations at the earliest.
According to an official statement, the committee brings together experts from diverse fields, including technology, education, security and administration. Alongside Nandan Nilekani, the panel comprises former ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
Nilekani, widely recognised for leading the Aadhaar digital identity initiative, is expected to guide the panel in leveraging advanced technologies, including digital systems and secure examination frameworks, to improve the integrity of examinations nationwide.

The announcement follows the conclusion of a students’ agitation over alleged paper leaks, which ended after the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The government believes the expert committee’s recommendations will help build a more secure, transparent and trustworthy examination system while safeguarding the interests of millions of students across India.
