Former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik said India has exported yoga, not war, while addressing the 15th anniversary of Slim & Fit Institute in Agartala. She highlighted yoga’s role in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and a healthier society under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global vision.

Former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik on Sunday asserted that India has never exported war but has gifted the world the timeless practice of yoga, describing it as the country’s greatest contribution towards building a healthier and more peaceful global society.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the two-day 15th anniversary celebrations of Slim & Fit Institute at Agartala Town Hall, Bhoumik said yoga has become a symbol of India’s cultural heritage and its commitment to the well-being of humanity.

“Our country has not exported war. Instead, it has popularised yoga to ensure a healthy society,” she said while addressing a gathering comprising yoga enthusiasts, dignitaries and members of the public.

Highlighting the growing global recognition of yoga, Bhoumik credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the ancient Indian discipline to the international stage. She said the Prime Minister’s efforts have transformed yoga into a worldwide movement that promotes physical fitness, mental wellness and a balanced lifestyle.

“A healthy body enables people to work efficiently and move forward towards prosperity. Yoga helps achieve that by ensuring physical fitness and mental strength,” Bhoumik said, urging people of all age groups to embrace yoga as a daily practice.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Dr. Yogacharya Lipika Saha, who has been actively promoting yoga and wellness through the Slim & Fit Institute over the past 15 years. The anniversary celebration featured discussions on health, wellness and the importance of adopting yoga in everyday life.

Among the distinguished guests present were Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar and News Today proprietor Sourajit Pal.

Speaking on the occasion, Jharna Debbarma emphasised that yoga should become an integral part of everyone’s daily routine, particularly among the younger generation. She noted that modern lifestyles often lead to stress and health-related challenges, making regular yoga practice more important than ever.

“Yoga is essential for everyone because a healthy body ensures mental well-being. In today’s hectic lifestyle, practising yoga every day has become a necessity,” she said.

Pranab Sarkar and Sourajit Pal also addressed the gathering, highlighting yoga’s significance in maintaining not only physical health but also a peaceful and focused mind capable of handling everyday challenges.
