Tripura Govt launched 50 Mini Mobile Veterinary Units under the Animal Resources Development Department to deliver doorstep animal healthcare services across remote areas. The initiative aims to improve livestock health, boost farmers’ income, strengthen veterinary care, and modernise animal healthcare infrastructure statewide.
In a landmark initiative aimed at transforming veterinary healthcare services across the state, the Tripura Government on Friday launched 50 Block-level Mini Mobile Veterinary Units under the Animal Resources Development Department. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the department’s history and reflects the state’s commitment to providing modern, accessible and efficient animal healthcare services to livestock owners, particularly those living in remote and rural areas.
The Mini Mobile Veterinary Units were inaugurated by Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das at a formal programme held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala. During the event, the minister also flagged off the fleet of vehicles, officially commencing their services across different blocks of the state.
The programme was attended by West Tripura Acting Zilla Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, senior officials of the Animal Resources Development Department, veterinary professionals and nearly 300 officers and employees associated with the department.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudhangshu Das described the occasion as a historic and proud day for the Animal Resources Development Department. He said the primary objective of launching the Mini Mobile Veterinary Units is to ensure that quality veterinary healthcare reaches the doorsteps of marginal livestock farmers, even in the most inaccessible parts of Tripura.
He emphasised that livestock plays a crucial role in strengthening the rural economy, and timely veterinary care is essential for maintaining healthy animals and improving productivity. According to the minister, the new initiative will help reduce livestock mortality, improve disease management, increase milk and meat production, and ultimately enhance the income and livelihoods of livestock rearers across the state.
As part of the programme, Minister Das and other dignitaries symbolically handed over the keys of the Mini Mobile Veterinary Units to the drivers, marking the formal rollout of the public service initiative.
Highlighting the government’s continued efforts to modernise veterinary infrastructure, the minister recalled that the state had earlier introduced 13 Mobile Veterinary Units to provide emergency veterinary care. Building upon the success of that programme, the newly launched fleet of 50 Mini Mobile Veterinary Units has been equipped with modern veterinary instruments and diagnostic equipment to deliver faster and more effective healthcare services at the grassroots level.
The newly introduced units have been integrated with the 1962 toll-free Veterinary Helpline, enabling livestock owners to access prompt veterinary assistance whenever required. The vehicles will provide a comprehensive range of doorstep services, including treatment of sick animals, emergency veterinary care, vaccination, deworming, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, disease surveillance and other essential livestock healthcare services.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve veterinary service delivery in every block of Tripura by ensuring timely medical attention for cattle, goats, pigs, poultry and other livestock. It also aligns with the state’s broader objective of strengthening the animal husbandry sector, promoting scientific livestock management and improving the socio-economic condition of rural farming communities.

With the launch of these 50 Mini Mobile Veterinary Units, the Tripura Government has taken another important step towards modernising animal healthcare infrastructure, safeguarding livestock health and supporting sustainable growth in the state’s animal resources sector. Officials believe the initiative will play a vital role in improving rural livelihoods while ensuring better access to quality veterinary services across Tripura.
