Assam’s CM FIFA Fan Park reaches Lakhimpur as World Cup excitement peaks, offering giant-screen match screenings for football fans. The initiative strengthens community participation, celebrates the Northeast’s football culture, and unites thousands of enthusiasts during the FIFA World Cup knockout stage.

The football fever surrounding the FIFA World Cup continues to grip Assam as the Chief Minister’s FIFA Fan Park initiative has now reached Lakhimpur, extending the festive football experience to another district of the state. After drawing enthusiastic crowds in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Jorhat, the latest Fan Park aims to bring together football lovers from across Lakhimpur to enjoy live World Cup action on giant screens in a vibrant community setting.

Organised by the Lakhimpur district administration under the patronage of local MLA Manab Deka, the CM FIFA Fan Park has been designed to recreate the atmosphere of a football stadium for supporters who gather to watch the late-night World Cup matches. The initiative allows fans to experience the excitement of the tournament collectively despite the significant time difference between India and the World Cup host nation.

The Fan Park is expected to attract thousands of football enthusiasts, including youngsters, families and supporters of different national teams. With giant LED screens, community seating and an energetic atmosphere, the venue offers football lovers an opportunity to celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event together while strengthening social bonds within the district.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Manab Deka highlighted the unique place football holds in the hearts of people across the Northeast. He remarked that while cricket remains India’s most popular sport, football enjoys a special emotional connection in the region.

“In India, cricket is undoubtedly a religion. But at the same time, in the Northeast, football is the heartbeat,” Deka said.

He further noted that football transcends geographical boundaries, languages and cultures, making it one of the most powerful sports capable of bringing people together. According to him, the CM FIFA Fan Park initiative has been introduced to ensure that football supporters can experience the thrill of the FIFA World Cup in a festive environment without travelling far from their hometowns.

The expansion of the Fan Park to Lakhimpur reflects the deep-rooted football culture of Assam and the wider Northeast, a region widely recognised for producing talented footballers and passionate supporters. Football has long been more than just a sport in the region, serving as a symbol of unity, identity and community pride.

The initiative has arrived at a crucial stage of the FIFA World Cup, with the tournament entering the knockout rounds and excitement reaching its highest level. Fans are eagerly preparing to witness the much-anticipated semi-final clashes, including France taking on Spain, followed by England facing Argentina. The tournament will continue with the third-place play-off on July 18 before culminating in the grand final on July 19.

Officials believe the Fan Park concept has evolved into one of Assam’s most successful community engagement initiatives during the FIFA World Cup. By bringing together supporters of different teams and generations under one roof, the programme promotes sportsmanship, strengthens community participation and celebrates the Northeast’s enduring love for football.
