Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, seeking three express train stoppages at Mungiakami Railway Station, station beautification, a modern foot over bridge, and improved railway infrastructure to enhance connectivity and passenger services in Tripura.
Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Monday met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and discussed several key public-interest issues aimed at improving railway connectivity and passenger facilities in the state. The meeting focused primarily on the development of Mungiakami Railway Station and strengthening rail infrastructure to benefit commuters in the region.
During the courtesy meeting, Debbarma submitted a memorandum requesting the approval of stoppages for three express trains at Mungiakami Railway Station. He said that the demand has been pending for a long time and that residents of Mungiakami and surrounding areas have consistently sought better railway connectivity to improve travel options.
Apart from seeking express train stoppages, the Minister urged the Union Railway Minister to consider a comprehensive development plan for the station. His proposals included the beautification of Mungiakami Railway Station, construction of a modern foot over bridge to ensure the safe movement of passengers across railway tracks, and the strengthening of essential railway infrastructure required for the station’s long-term growth.
Debbarma highlighted that the proposed foot over bridge would significantly improve passenger safety, particularly during peak travel hours, while the beautification project would enhance the overall appearance and functionality of the station. He also stressed that improved railway infrastructure would support the growing number of passengers using the station and contribute to better travel experiences.
According to the Minister, improved facilities at Mungiakami Railway Station would not only benefit local commuters but also strengthen connectivity for nearby villages and adjoining areas. Better rail services, he said, would support economic activities, facilitate smoother transportation, and improve accessibility for students, employees, traders, and other daily passengers.
The memorandum further emphasized that introducing stoppages for three express trains would address one of the most significant demands of local residents. Enhanced train connectivity is expected to reduce travel difficulties and provide faster and more convenient transportation to major destinations within and outside Tripura.
Speaking after the meeting, Debbarma expressed satisfaction over the discussions and described the interaction with the Union Railway Minister as fruitful. He conveyed optimism that the Railway Ministry would give positive consideration to the proposals submitted during the meeting.
“I am hopeful that if these matters are considered positively, the expectations of the people of Mungiakami and adjoining areas will be fulfilled. The proposed initiatives will significantly strengthen railway connectivity and improve passenger services across the region,” Debbarma said.
The Minister also noted that the proposed railway improvements align with the broader objective of expanding transport infrastructure across Tripura and ensuring balanced regional development. Improved railway facilities, he observed, would play an important role in supporting economic growth while enhancing public convenience.
