The much-awaited action entertainer Om, starring Tamil superstar Dhanush and Malayalam megastar Mammootty, has entered its final phase of production with the last shooting schedule officially getting underway in Malaysia. According to sources close to the film’s production team, the final schedule commenced on Sunday, marking a significant milestone for one of the most anticipated South Indian films of 2026.
Excitement surrounding the project has grown further after several videos of Dhanush interacting with fans and signing autographs in Malaysia surfaced on social media. The clips quickly went viral, reinforcing reports that the actor is currently filming key portions of the movie overseas.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy, Om has generated considerable buzz ever since its announcement, thanks to its star-studded cast, high production values and intriguing storyline. While the makers had earlier announced October 16, 2026, as the worldwide theatrical release date, industry sources now indicate that the release could be postponed. Although there has been no official confirmation from the production team, a revised release date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The project recently became even more significant with the addition of veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah to its ensemble cast. Announcing his inclusion, production house Wunderbar Films described the acclaimed actor as a “strong addition” to the film’s world and reaffirmed its confidence in the ambitious project.
Interestingly, the film carries the tagline Chapter 1, hinting that the makers are planning a larger cinematic universe or a sequel. This has further fuelled curiosity among movie enthusiasts eager to see the scale and scope of the action drama.
Earlier released promotional material revealed that Om revolves around the illegal red sanders trade. Dhanush portrays a woodcutter who emerges as a protector of fellow workers after law enforcement officials crack down on illegal logging operations. The action-packed title teaser showcased intense sequences and suggested that the film would blend emotional storytelling with large-scale action.
Speaking during the title teaser launch, Wunderbar Films head Sreyas described Om as one of the biggest-budget productions of Dhanush’s career. He also stated that the film would bring back the “mass vintage Dhanush” that fans have long been waiting to witness on the big screen.
The film also stars Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in leading roles, adding further strength to the ensemble cast. Music for the film has been composed by Sai Abhyankkar, while cinematography is handled by Ezhil Arasu. Editing duties have been entrusted to Kalaivanan R, and the costumes have been designed by Kavya Sriram.
Mammootty’s inclusion in the project had earlier created widespread excitement across the South Indian film industry. Welcoming the Malayalam superstar, Wunderbar Films had expressed its honour in collaborating with the legendary actor, describing his participation as a landmark moment for the production.
